Kansas City Chiefs hall-of-famer Ed Podolak was seriously injured after being hit by a car Sunday morning in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Des Moines Register reported.
Podolak, the longtime color commentator for the Iowa Hawkeyes, is reportedly in stable condition with "non-life-threatening injuries." He was attending a wedding in Arizona and was hit while crossing a street near the hotel where he was staying.
Podolak's daughter, Laura, released the following statement to the Register:
"University of Iowa football color commentator and former Kansas City Chiefs running back Ed Podolak suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a car outside his hotel in Scottsdale, Ariz., early Sunday morning. To add some clarity on that last point, Podolak sought out "professional treatment" a couple of years ago after pictures surfaced of him drinking and clowning around with Hawkeye fans during a bowl game trip.
"Podolak suffered major injuries, but is in stable condition at a Scottsdale area hospital."Police say alcohol was not a factor."

Wishing him the best. My sister had a major crush on him in the 70's, and I met him once in Independence when he had a restaurant here. He sat down and talked to me and we laughed about my sister's crush. He was very personable, friendly. I hope his alcohol troubles are behind him and that he makes a full recovery from this accident.
