NBC Action News action weatherman Gary Lezak took a stand against ignorance on Monday's 10 p.m. broadcast.

Residents have shoveled a lot of snow over the course of the last two winters. But contrary to what Sean Hannity and idiotic editorial cartoonists believe, the flakes do not mean that global warming has stopped. Lezak told viewers that the Earth is getting hotter, and he suggested that humans are mostly likely the cause.

Reams of data support Lezak's report, of course. The American Meteorological Society, the sanctioning body of weathercasters, takes the position that the Earth is warming and that greenhouse gasses have played a significant role in that trend. (As for all that snow? Warmer air holds more moisture.)

But a number of men and women in Lezak's trade think that climate science is something which belongs in air quotes. A startling number of TV meteorologists do not accept that the planet is getting hotter, and even fewer believe that human activity is making polar bears swim like hell to find suitable icebergs.

One of Lezak's rivals counts himself among the skeptics. Fox 4's Mike Thompson is a superstitious peasant on the subject of climate change. Checking his Doppler at the church door, Thompson holds the view that "God created a resilient Earth." So sure that his Lord has this climate thing covered, Thompson has compared environmentalists with Hitler Youth.

Lezak took a small dig at Thompson during his segment on Monday, noting that it is "mostly politicians and non-scientists" who scoff at the idea that our tailpipes and smokestacks are bending temperature curves.

Non-scientist! Snap!
