NBC Action News action weatherman Gary Lezak took a stand against ignorance on Monday's 10 p.m. broadcast.
Residents have shoveled a lot of snow over the course of the last two winters. But contrary to what Sean Hannity and idiotic editorial cartoonists believe, the flakes do not mean that global warming has stopped. Lezak told viewers that the Earth is getting hotter, and he suggested that humans are mostly likely the cause.
Reams of data support Lezak's report, of course. The American Meteorological Society, the sanctioning body of weathercasters, takes the position that the Earth is warming and that greenhouse gasses have played a significant role in that trend. (As for all that snow? Warmer air holds more moisture.)
But a number of men and women in Lezak's trade think that climate science is something which belongs in air quotes. A startling number of TV meteorologists do not accept that the planet is getting hotter, and even fewer believe that human activity is making polar bears swim like hell to find suitable icebergs.
One of Lezak's rivals counts himself among the skeptics. Fox 4's Mike Thompson is a superstitious peasant on the subject of climate change. Checking his Doppler at the church door, Thompson holds the view that "God created a resilient Earth." So sure that his Lord has this climate thing covered, Thompson has compared environmentalists with Hitler Youth.
Lezak took a small dig at Thompson during his segment on Monday, noting that it is "mostly politicians and non-scientists" who scoff at the idea that our tailpipes and smokestacks are bending temperature curves.
Non-scientist! Snap!

I just came across this and only have this to say - Mike Thompson (of the faux news family) doesn't believe in climate change? That alone should make us all lean even more towards believing it IS true. How does he explain parts of the world that have become so dry, the people are starving to death? Their part of the world doesn't seem too resilient.
Gary thank GOD your intelligent enough to deal with a real scientific issue. Mike thompson can say all tghe prayers he wants at night but the truth hurts stop ignoring the facts mike. Also the earth is created to endure we may not be around to see it at this rate. Uh helllo mike do ur research
No, the point is that we need to be aware of resources and start taking care of our world.
that moisture you are talking about comes directly from the Dixon's and not from global warming. He was talkin' 'bout his carvironment.
So, Gary Lezak is a scientist? Yeah, ok. Technically, yes he is. And Einstein was a comedian. He said some funny stuff too you know.
Actually there is more moisture in the air due to global warming. This is the reason for the last two winters we've had.
You do realize that meteorology "is the scientific study of the atmosphere that focuses on weather processes and forecasting", right? So you know, technically, Gary Lezak is a scientist, and a very well qualified one at that.
Also, that technically makes you poorly qualified to judge the qualifications of a scientist who is an expert in the field of weather forecasting and climate.
I think I'll believe the guy who has been doing this for 20 years.
And adapt we will, into a world with changed growing seasons, less predictable weather, expanded ranges for pests, higher rainfall and flooding, invasive species, and tropical diseases.
Sounds like fun...?
The reason for this years heavy midwest snows is, it's a La Nina year. Has nothing to do with global warming.
I know global warming and climate change are in full swing because I have seen the effects, albeit on a smaller scale, in my car after 2 bowls of Dixon's.
Gary Lezak? Gary Lezak? Who cares what Gary Lezak thinks? Thanks Gary, can you give me some advice on dating too? What an idiot. "Mostly ... non-scientists"? Since when did Gary Sleestak become a scientist? Meteorologist, maybe. Scientist, please!
Actually, Abe, a quick glance at the invaluable — and, as it happens, irony-fortified — Internet Movie Database reveals that The Day After Tomorrow was co-produced and distributed worldwide by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, a subsidiary of — wait for it... wait for it — News Corporation, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch.

"Lezak told viewers that the Earth is getting hotter, and he suggested that humans are mostly likely the cause." And the solution is... get rid of the humans?
No. Adapt.
..JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER LIVING THING ON EARTH WILL DO!
Eco-people must not believe in human physiological evolution. Idiots.
Climate Change was for gullible fools and we former believers now clearly see that “crisis”, “catastrophic”, “sever” and “unstoppable warming” were a climate cowards death threat. It was an embarrassing era of environMENTAL environmentalism and I wish I could take back the times I implied to our younger minds that “they“ will die on a dying planet from CO2. If any of you stay behind believers and your faded “worst-case-scenario profiting” scientists had any stones at all, you would call climate change what it was supposed to be, death. Not unpleasant weather. How is a little crisis possible anyways? History is not going to be kind to our Disco Doomsday Science and modern day witch burning and even Obama himself bailed on the “crisis” in his state of the union speech. Add to that, the Republican majority just voted to pull all American IPCC funding and there is wide spread talk now of arrests coming. Failed calls for crisis always back fire and now Obama and the press have a new enemy, those who led us to war against climate variation. A wave of former believer rage has arrived and I dare anyone to say unstoppable warming is absolutely true. It’s no different from any old freak standing by the side of the road holding a sign with THE END IS NEAR, SAVE THE PLANET scribbled on it.
Journalists and News Editors that covered the climate change mistake for the last two and a half decades of needless panic, have done to science and journalism, what abusive priests did for the Catholic Church. You lazy copy and paste clowns will sooner or later be charged with treason for leading your country to a false war of climate variation and for condemning our children to a death by CO2.
Meanwhile, the UN had allowed carbon trading to trump 3rd world fresh water relief, starvation rescue and 3rd world education for just over a quarter of a century of climate control instead of needed population control. Call the courthouse.
Pollution is real, death by CO2 was not.
Yes, because movies should be taken as seriously as cable news channels.
Actually, that does sound about right.
Um, no, it's not the same at all. Denying the existence of climate change is ridiculous and stupid. Some fear mongering among the environmental extreme isn't even close to being that unconscionable. And to suggest that "the Left" funded 'The Day After Tomorrow' is a stretch. Some radicals simply latched on to the film to increase the sense of urgency which, while perhaps misguided, is at least a positive endeavor.
Yes, but is the world going to end? Just as the right/Hannity are being idiots about the snow, the left funds movies like the Day After Tomorrow, that try and make people believe the world is going to end in less than 5 years due to climate change.
Both sides are using it as a political agenda, what else is new?
