Kansas City voters got the Funk out. Mayor Mark Funkhouser won't see a second term in office -- the first incumbent since the 1920s to not survive the primary.

Sly James and Mike Burke will square off in a March 22 run-off election. KMBC Channel 9 reported that only 38 votes separated James and Burke.

In the City Council races, here's the March fight card:

The 1st District At-Large: Scott Wagner vs. Daina Kennedy

The 2nd District: Incumbent Russ Johnson vs. Aaron Benefield

The 2nd District At-Large: Incumbent Ed Ford vs. Allen Dillingham

The 3rd District: Incumbent Sharon Sanders Brooks vs. Jermaine Taylor

The 3rd District At-Large: Incumbent Melba Curls vs. Brandon Ellington

The 4th District At-Large: Ex-councilman Jim Glover vs. John Crawford

The 5th District: Ex-councilman Ken Bacchus vs. pastor Michael Brooks

The 5th District At-Large: Incumbent Cindy Circo vs. Charlie Angel

The 6th District: Incumbent John Sharp vs. Terrence Nash

The 6th District At-Large: Scott Taylor vs. Tracy Ward

Running unopposed were Dick Davis (1st District) and Jan Marcason (4th District).

Gloating (parting)is such sweet sorrow…I know you thought I was done….Guess again. Mayor Funkhouser I hope you have done as Ms. Barnes, learned your valuable and vast lesson about city-(especially Kansas City) politics. The minute you guys get into office you “flip the which”. You know the difference between a politician and a leader? A “politician” does nothing…Absolutely nothing…Only what’s “politically expedient” and in the best or self serving interest of his party / group needs. A “leader” does not embrace the body / politic, but the will, needs and interest if the people that he or she serves. That is the lesson that all politicians and would be (cause a real leader already knows this) needs to come to learn, embrace, understand and master. Since the dawn of civilization, man has always been socially divided between the “haves and the have-nots.” Unfortunately, many people with higher learning-(college degrees) have been at the forefront of politics and bureaucratic decision / making.” Hence for the folly. Unemployment, higher taxes, poverty, wars, social and economic divide, racism, etc.. Fundamental practices(politics) by politicians and bureaucrats--spurned by often “lust and just good old / fashion greed,” are what perpetuates the suffering in not only in our cities, but our states and federal governments as well. All at the expenses of the tax and non tax paying citizens. So in hindsight Mayor Funkhouser, I do not wish you well…But “Farwell.” I do not dislike you personally, only your fundamentally (politics, political / ideology) grasp and understanding of “how you thought the world (Kansas city) really worked.”

And on a lighter note…I’m seriously thinking about running for president….What do you think of that? Wish me luck-(Funkhouser)? Probably not….

I don't know who the candidates are (I left KC 10 yrs ago), but either of them has to be better than what Funk and Mrs Funk have offered. I am saddened and sickened to read week after week about the wasted taxes, sweetheart deals, good-ol'-boy mismanagement, etc, etc. The city's school district was laughable when I lived in the area and has only slid further downhill. Take away the famed KC earnings tax and the whole thing would go tits-up within the hour.

Now you know I was just kidding!! He (Funk) needs to go…Glad He’s gone…Funny…You fired Cauthen…And the citizens turned around and fired you!!! How ironic!! This should be an example to all would be politicians and political officials…The voters aren’t playing around….The country is in a serious / economic downturn…If you can’t do the job, you will be replaced…Don’t think four years won’t go by…They will……Quickly!!! SO if you earn your place and want to keep it….Tend to what must be done and done now…Fix the eastside…..Support rapid growth, economic development, etc….

In the spirit of good and fair elections…I must apologize for my childish outburst…I wish Mayor Funkhouser all the best that he deserves….And God’s speed…

I am so glad he is going…..going….and so to be gone! The last one had (and she knows who she is) wanted to “Dig her own Garden” and he (Funk) wanted to drive Downtown into a building frenzy while the city’s eastside crumbles…If only he had been smart enough to back what our organization was proposing-(jobs, economic development, etc.,) he’d probably still have a job…I am gloating? Hell yeah! I am being petty? Hell Yeah, again…Good bye Mr. Funkhouser…Parting-(Gloating) is such sweet sorry….Bye! See Ya! Hit the Bricks!

From Kansas Citians to Mayor: Get the “Funk out” I think I speak for the vast / majority when I say that……The problems with city officials they can’t seem to stop deluding themselves…Their egos verses the right, good and will of the people…Funny how the will of the people seems to outweigh those egos?

I think the KC voters are tired of Squitiro.

So what happened Tuesday? It's called being fed up as taxpayers.
This is about corruption, fiscal irresponsibility, and misuse of taxpayers funds.
When we see headlines like this "Kansas City police commanders, lobbyist charge taxpayers for pricey meal and booze at Capital Grille."
We need to use the right word to describe this problem -- it's called theft.
They are stealing from taxpayers' money to fill their pockets,
Being a public servant, is a service to your community.
"SERVICE" not "SERVE Yourself" at taxpayers expense.

I had figured Funk's name recognition alone would carry him through the primaries.

"The 4th District" in your list should be "The 4th District At-Large." I am fairly pleased overall with the results.
