  • Casey Brezik: incompetent to stand trial.

Casey Brezik won't be going to trial for stabbing a community-college official, and the Star reported that Brezik has been committed to the Missouri Department of Mental Health.

In September, the 23-year-old student allegedly slashed the throat of a dean at Metropolitan Community College. His intended target was Missouri Gov. Jay

Nixon, who was scheduled to speak at

the Penn Valley campus but canceled

after learning of the attack. Brezik is accused of attacking 55-year-old Al Dimmitt Jr., who has recovered from his injuries.  He's also accused of nicking the

school's chancellor, Mark James, who was trying to pull

Brezik off Dimmitt.

Mental-health professionals will reportedly evaluate Brezik and give the

court a recommendation about his competency in six months. All of this

is to say right now, Brezik apparently doesn't understand what's going

on. The Star's report says he lashed out, telling the judge, "Do whatever

you want. It doesn't matter now." He also yelled, "They're hiding the

truth," as he was being led from the courtroom.

Brezik's commitment isn't a surprise given that he was reportedly diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2006 and has

been in mental hospitals at least four times. Brezik started

attending MCC-Penn Valley three weeks prior to the stabbing. No one

considered him a

threat.

Brezik's

Facebook page was full of revolutionary ramblings.
