Kansas City Royals are not dead last in USA Today's baseball Power Rankings

USA Today just came out with its preseason Power Rankings, and I'd like to spin the Royals' abysmal placement on the list by finding the silver lining. No matter what bad things you find to say about the Royals -- and Lord, there are so many -- we can all thank God we don't live in Pittsburgh, Arizona or Cleveland right now.

Yeah, we got 27th place out of 30.

The Boston Red Sox got the number one slot, while the St. Louis Cardinals were ranked sixth. Former Royal Zack Greinke's new team, the Milwaukee Brewers, were

ranked 14th, so he traded up. Here's the paper's one

sentence assessment of the Royals' prospects: "One more year --

maybe half a year? -- until the kids arrive."

Honest and likely true, but hurtful.

The rankings are voted on by a panel of USA Today baseball writers and editors and are therefore sacrosanct. Plan your season accordingly.
