The publishers of PresentMagazine.com announced today that the online publication would cease publishing at the end of April.
In a letter to readers titled "The future of Present," publishers
Pete Dulin and Pam Taylor wrote that it was time for them "to pursue
other goals and opportunities."
"We have done what we set out to do and we are gratified to see others
doing the same," Dulin and Taylor wrote in their letter. "We're ready to step back and focus our time and energy
on other endeavors."
The online-only publication was started in 2005 to cover Kansas City's
creative and small-business community.
As for their future endeavors, Dulin and Taylor gave a glimpse of
what their post-Present life will be like:
Best of luck to both of them.Pete: Currently, I am the publication and website editor at the
nonprofit International Essential Tremor Foundation
(www.essentialtremor.org). As a Slow Food KC board member, I am growing
more involved in the local food scene. As a freelance writer, I write
about local restaurants for Home in the Northland Magazine and have
written the weekly "Last Bite" recipe feature in the Kansas City Star
Magazine since 2009. I will continue to write about food, music, and
other topics of interest for other publications and on PeteDulin.com.
Finally, I want to finish writing my future noir novel set in Kansas
City.
Pam: My life-long passion has been the science of learning. As a home
educator for my three kids and a learning coach and tutor for thirty
more students, my time is increasingly spent in this area. This spring,
I will continue my studies and start making headway in becoming a
Licensed Professional Counselor and, eventually, a psychologist. My
goal is to grow my business, my-learning-coach.com, and open a coaching
center for kids and adults with various learning needs--including
dyslexia and dysgraphia. I also am looking forward to focusing on my
own drawing and painting.
