We recently told you about an effort among Missouri lawmakers to repeal key provisions of Proposition B, the ballot measure that voters passed last year to increase regulation on the state's puppy mills.
On top of the fact that the repeal effort is being driven by the son of a shady puppy mill owner, it's a pretty brazen attempt to undo the will of the people. It's also business as usual in Jeff City.
The AP's David A. Lieb points out that the lawmakers in Jeff City have a storied tradition of cackling evilly at the will of the people. Here's a rundown:
Minimum Wage
The statehouse this week will debate a bill that would cap Missouri's state minimum wage at whatever the federal number is, undoing a 2006 ballot measure that allowed the state to raise its minimum wage above the federal level. That measure, Lieb points out, was approved by 76 percent of voters. But what do they know, right?
School Funding
In 2008, 56 percent of voters agreed that the state should raise taxes paid by casinos in order to increase funding for the state's public schools. Lawmakers gutted it the next year, costing the schools as much as $20 million in revenue. "The money is not being spent the way voters intended," state auditor Susan Montee said at the time. "There should be some confidence that when voters vote
something in, it stays that way."
Gun Control
In 1999, voters narrowly defeated a proposed concealed-carry law. Four years later, lawmakers jammed it through on their own.
Cute Puppies
And last year, 52 percent of voters decided to limit the number of dogs a breeder can house to 50 and require "dog breeding operations to provide each dog under their care with
sufficient food, clean water, housing and space; necessary veterinary
care; regular exercise and adequate rest between breeding cycles."
Now the law looks doomed. The people spoke, sure, but the lawmakers who those people elected always get their turn at the mic.

I just wanted to say in regard to my comment, Mr. Terry Ward, I was referring to the Westboro Baptist Church members that protest at military funerals. That subject was brought up on that page. Anyone who supports protesting those who are being laid to rest for protecting your freedoms needs to realize how wrong that is!
Want a laugh?

These people are the same ones that protest at military funerals and are from a Baptist church?!! You sure can't tell they're from a church by the word this person used in the title or by their protesting!

There is a solution: vote people out who don't respect the wishes of the people.
Freedom is best protected by those whom have LOST that freedom... ask any Libyan, & Egyptian
And the Republican War on America continues unopposed. No wonder Terrorists are not carbombing our cities.
Since Missouri voters are now being controlled exclusively by 'Rural Interest Groups', what could be next on the 'Rural Interest Group' agenda?
Moving ' liberal city folks' out of state?
Prosecuting 'urban radicals' for terrorism?
BE CAREFUL HOW YOU VOTE, MISSOURI.
It may come back to bite you.
