Yuri Ives met his teenage killer on Craigslist. The court records are discreet enough not to say what Ives and his alleged killer, 17-year-old Ali Cubba, discussed, but they do allege that Cubba's intentions weren't pure.
The body of the 48-year-old realtor was found in his renovated Northeast neighborhood mansion Monday night. Ives died from multiple gunshot wounds and cuts. Court documents say a second suspect, 18-year-old Zachary Kimbrell, told
authorities everything they wanted to
know about the slaying. Kimbrell told detectives that he drove Cubba to
Ives' home so he could rob him. Cubba had met Ives through a Craigslist personal ad.
Kimbrell told police that he knew Cubba was armed with a knife, and
when Cubba came back to his vehicle, he was "covered in blood and
carrying a gun." Cubba allegedly told Kimbrell that he'd stabbed Ives but ended up cutting his hand.
Before they left Ives' home, Cubba allegedly gave Kimbrell a bag to
cover his license plate. However, Kimbrell didn't use it. From there, Kimbrell said he and Cubba went to Kimbrell's home so Cubba could clean
up and change clothes. Cubba allegedly burned his clothes. Kimbrell then
dropped Cubba off at his home.
The plan, according to Kimbrell, was to sell Ives' handgun.
Detectives investigating the scene found a knife sheath near a fence
that neighbors said they chased a suspect over. They also found a knife with blood on it.
Ives' cell phone, wallet and silver revolver were missing. However,
detectives found a cell phone at the crime scene. Detectives checked the
last number called, which went to a number belonging to Cubba. Detectives checked Ives' computer and found a trail of e-mails between
Ives and Cubba. Court records say the e-mails showed that Ives and Cubba
planned on meeting at Ives' home on February 28.
Cubba refused to talk with authorities. However, detectives noted that
Cubba had a cut on his hand.
Police searched Cubba's home on March 2 and found a silver .44-caliber
revolver in Cubba's bedroom.
Cubba and Kimbrell are charged with second-degree murder, first-degree
robbery and two felony counts of armed criminal action.
NBC Action News reported
that Ives had sent e-mails to city leaders months ago saying he feared
for his life. However, police said the photo of the man who Ives thought
might kill him was not the focus of their investigation.

If he's so good, then why did we drive Ali to the Gladstone address knowing that Ali had a knife as a weapon? He knew that Ali might assault Ives with the knife, and since that said weapon was utilized in the attack; Zach is guilty by association. If this, "good guy" was so good he would have not driven Ali to see Yuri and the attack/robbery would not have happened. If he would have failed to transport Ali from A to B, there would have been no attack/robbery and Yuri would be alive, so my dear, Zach is an accessory. He didn't pull the trigger but provided the means for Ali to. He failed to come forward with the information, was still intending to sell Yuri's hand gun and knew or helped Ali burn the clothes that had Yuri's blood on them.
