Campaigning for the U.S. Senate in 2006, Claire McCaskill copped to being "a rich lady." Having a wealthy developer for a second husband meant that, among other things, McCaskill had access to a private plane.
But on Monday, McCaskill said she plans to sell the "damn plane," which threatens to run landing gear over her re-election chances. After acknowledging that taxpayers were billed for a political trip, McCaskill admitted that she failed to pay $287,273 in personal property taxes on the aircraft.
McCaskill called a news conference after Politico asked her about the taxes. She says she will immediately pay St. Louis County the money she owes.
McCaskill sounds furious that she allowed the trappings of her personal wealth to become a hideous broach that her opponents could pin to her chest. She told reporters on a conference call:
I have convinced my husband to sell the damn plane. I will never set foot on the plane again.McCaskill could vow to ride Amtrak and Greyhound the rest of her life, but it wouldn't keep Republican operatives from mounting a ClaireAir campaign. Here's a new, 60-second video from the National Republican Senatorial Committee:

The Pitch didn't have to run this story. As an alt news source, it could do nothing with this story or attempt to spin it like the Huff Post. Instead, I find the story to be very direct and unique in that it included the link to the Republican ad, that probably wouldn't get as much viewing otherwise, and flat out stated, this can kill her re-election chances. So the comment about The Pitch going easy or spinning this story seems plain wrong.
The Pitch is so damn easy on these demoncrats. Billing taxpayers for personal trips, failure to pay assloads of taxes (just like Rev. Cleaver) but these people are the ones who consistently raise our taxes (at the local, state and federal level).
Where's the hard-hitting stories calling Claire a douchebag for wasting so much of OUR money? And of course she already admitted to hiding funds off-shore. Maybe Claire forgot that "paying taxes is patriotic".
This isn't the only scandal with Senator McCaskill's name written on it; there's another scandal brewing at American Airlines as well.
You see, Senator McCaskill involved herself in a union officer election without disclosing that she was close personal friends with an executive appointee to the incumbent administration. In short, the senator brokered a deal with American Airlines whereby unprecedented voting rights were given to 410 flight attendants and a recall extension given to 800 more. Those 1,200 flight attendants were then encouraged by the incumbent union governance to withhold votes during the primary election so as to support the incumbent during the runoff.
What's so startling about this scandal is the fact that most of the American Airlines executives that participated in it donated to the senator's 2008 campaign fund. Read about it:

Y'know, if she was prosecuting someone who offered up such an obviously bullshit excuse, she'd have thrown the book at them.
Of course, I've never met a prosecutor who wasn't a complete and utter scumbag, so it's not exactly a huge surprise to see this.
Don't forget that she was Missouri's state auditor for eight years. Time for Air Claire to retire to her mansion and live off her husbands money instead of the taxpayers.
Typical 'kill the messenger' mentality.
Claire bear is an attorney, former state legislator, former county prosecutor, and former county auditor. McCaskill is not a stupid woman.
Yet she could not seem to keep track of the $76,000 erroneously billed to the taxpayers for the plane's use OR pay the property taxes on this HUGE piece of property during the previous four years.
And then she only pays up after all this is made public.
You & I would be in jail for such sheenanigans.
Now she wants her 15 minutes to whine about that 'damn plane" and excoriate Republicans who DARE make an issue of her malfeasance.
Hey, claire bear. How about simply pay your own damn bills and quit sponging off the tax payers??
And call your accountant once in a while, lady.
