UPDATE: Turn out the lights, the five year party's over. Ex-KU athletics official Rodney Jones is headed to prison. According to the Star, Jones is going away for 46 months, and he'll have to pay $1.3 million in restitution to KU and the IRS (he'll also be forfeiting $2 million). He's the second ex-KU official to get sentenced to prison time this week (see more after the jump).

Original Story (March 29):This is some bad news for two former University of Kansas athletics department employees: The Associated Press is reporting that the feds are seeking prison time. Not that anyone's weeping for Rodney Jones or Kassie Liebsch, who took part in the $2 million ticket scalping scheme (except their defense attorneys, who are seeking probation). In January, both pleaded guilty to their roles in the scheme. The feds want to send Jones to prison for 46 months. They're also trying to send Liebsch away for 37 months.
We'll find out the outcome later this week. Liebsch's sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday and Jones' for Thursday.
Interesting note from the AP story: Jones pissed away his money on
"extensive partying." In hindsight, I'm guessing it wasn't worth it.
Earlier this month, a federal judge sentenced Brandon Simmons and Jason Jeffries to
two years of probation and ordered them to repay thousands of dollars
in restitution.
UPDATE: As expected, Kassie Liebsch was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison
for her role in the $2 million KU ticket scalping scheme. The Lawrence
Journal-World reported
that Liebsch is also responsible for repaying $1.3 million in
restitution to Kansas Athletics and $80,000 in back taxes to the IRS.
