I guess you can't expect everyone to be excited about the Google fiber announcement. Beating out 1,100 other cities to be the chosen one for
Google's ultra high-speed broadband wasn't good enough for some. According to Fox 4, Unified Government Commissioner Nathan Barnes was acting all pissy about how the process went down.
"I just found out about this 48 hours ago, and now I'm making this big
decision to ratify this, and not knowing where are we going to be able
to intervene to make changes to that agreement that we are ratifying
tonight," Barnes told the TV station.
"I would hope that transparency becomes the order of the day, rather
than a few chosen people speaking from that back room and then putting
out something for us to ratify when we've only had 48 hours to deal
with," Barnes added.
Yet the UG's Board of Commissioners unanimously approved an agreement with Google. If Barnes was so unhappy with the speed of the process, then why did he vote for it? Shouldn't he have worked out these issues while KCK was vying to be the pilot city? This smacks of someone being butthurt because they didn't find out in advance.
Really, most cities would kill to have Google coming to town. This is a big deal for KCK. Not really seeing the drawbacks.
Next Wednesday, Google and KCK officials will be holding a town-hall meeting.
Google is planning to offer service starting in 2012.
