There's something to be said about going home. Kansas State basketball coach Frank Martin and his agent have both said that no one from the University of Miami has contacted them. Earlier this week, Martin told Tim Brando that he is "extremely happy" at K-State. But he did qualify it with a "never say never."
But now, CBS Sports' Gary Parrish is reporting that "Miami can have Kansas State's Frank Martin" with a commitment "to seriously funding its basketball program." Parrish wrote that "multiple sources" have told CBS Sports that Martin "wouldn't pass on the opportunity to return to his hometown if Miami
wanted him and committed to being a program that can realistically
expect to compete in the top half of the ACC -- meaning Miami would have
to pay Martin and his assistants competitive salaries and increase its
basketball budget."
Is Miami willing to do that? Right now, no one has any idea, outside of Miami's acting athletic director, Tony Hernandez.
Parrish quotes one unnamed source who told CBS Sports: "He'd walk on coals to get there. That's his home."
Making a run at Martin would be a smart move for Miami. But pumping money into the basketball program might not be high on the school's list of priorities, which include football, football, football and football.

In addition to football, Miami puts a lot of money into its baseball program, which is consistently one of the top programs in the nation. They spend more on baseball than any team in the Big 12 not named Texas.
This is a school whose aformentioned football program felt they could not justify replacing the Orange Bowl, so they now have to go from Coral Gables to Davie to play at Joe Robbie/Pro Player/Jimmy Buffett Stadium. Yet the football program STILL brings in big $ and keeps the Miami PD busy!
To expect them to throw another nickel at basketball so they can get the Bowtie Killer (see the movie "Problem Child") to coach is ludicrous!
Shit, I'd walk on coals if someone paid next month's rent for me.
