It's official: Marcus and Markieff Morris are going pro. The twins will sign with agent Tony Dutt, meaning there is no turning back.
Kansas basketball coach Bill Self made the announcement last night in a press release, saying KU is "100 percent" behind their decision to enter the 2011 NBA Draft: "We've won a ton of games in the last three years, and the twins were a
big part of that. When the time is right, the time is right and
certainly now the time is right for those guys to go onto the next
level."
The twins' decision to go pro was pretty much expected. NBA Draft.Net's latest mock draft has the twins going back-to-back with the No. 12 (Utah getting Marcus) and No. 13 picks (Phoenix taking Markieff). Draft Express pegs Marcus at No. 15 (Indiana) and Markieff (Washington) at No. 19. That'll change 638 times between now and draft day.
"This decision was tugging at both our hearts," Markieff said in a
statement. "Coach Self thinks this is a good time, and we feel this is
the best for us and for our family. We will always be Jayhawks and be
part of this family. I would like to thank the fans for their support over the
past years. Some of my best experiences have been at KU, and I'm thankful
for my teammates, coaches and all the people that support KU."
Marcus called the decision to leave KU "one of the most difficult" of his life.
"Our three years at KU have been great - the fans, Allen Fieldhouse, the
games, but most importantly, the coaches and my teammates," Marcus said
in the statement. "We accomplished a lot together and learned even more
with our coaching staff.
"The support the fans showed us can never be matched," Marcus added. "We appreciate everything they did for us while we were here. When we
say F.O.E., we are saying Family Over Everything, and that includes the
Jayhawk Nation."
Earlier this week, Thomas Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor announced they would be returning to KU. The only question mark left for the Jayhawks appears to be whether freshman guard Josh Selby will stay or go pro.
