Just days after announcing that he'd return for his junior season at the University of Kansas, Thomas Robinson was allegedly involved in an altercation outside a Lawrence nightclub.
The Lawrence Journal-World spoke with Adam Lauridsen, a bouncer at the Cave, and he told the paper that several members of the basketball team were outside the bar around closing time on April 10 when a person hanging out with the players (not a player) hit a bouncer on the head. Lauridsen said the players, including Robinson, tried to separate the man and the bouncer, but then Robinson allegedly got angry.
"He hit one of my buddies in the head," Lauridsen told the Journal-World. He also claimed that he witnessed Robinson spit on the bouncer.
Lawrence police have cited Robinson for misdemeanor battery. Police have said only the following (via the Journal-World):
Police have said two suspects were accused of hitting bouncers at 2:05KU hasn't taken any public action against Robinson. Kansas coach Bill Self released this statement (via Campus Corner):a.m. April 10 outside The Cave after bar staff said they broke up a
large fight inside the club.
Capt. Paul Fellers in a statement said that police were called about a
fight and that one bouncer, a 25-year-old Lawrence man, alleged that one
suspect had struck him and then spit on him. A witness alleged a second
suspect had hit another bouncer, a 23-year-old Lawrence man, Fellers
said.
According to a police report, the two victims were not injured. Police
did not identify the two suspects, but Sgt. Matt Sarna, a police
spokesman, said Tuesday morning that only one person has been ticketed.
Sarna of the police department said the case remains under investigationand it's possible other people could be charged.
Hmm. Just remember that the last Jayhawk cited for battery, Mario Little, was suspended for six games last season after being arrested in connection with an altercation with his ex-girlfriend."We are aware of this situation," Self said, "due to the fact that Thomas notified me immediately following his being interviewed by the police that morning, at approximately 2 a.m. about an incident that occurred just prior. Thomas is fully cooperating and we will not have any further comment about this situation as the investigation plays out."
