The Wyandotte County District Attorney's Office just announced that cousins Stephen A. Reed, 16, and Shane Reed, 17, have been charged in connection with the murder of Ryder Spillman this Easter.
Stephen Reed is been charged with first-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm by a juvenile, and Shane Reed is charged with aiding a felon and criminal possession of a firearm by a juvenile. Both of the Prairie Village teens are charged as juveniles.
Earlier today, police confirmed there was speculation that Spillman's death may have stemmed from a skateboarding rivalry. The district attorney's release does not include details as to what evidence led to the teens arrest or a police report.
An online search of the Reeds turns up a bizarre Urban Dictionary entry on "Reed Brothers" at Shawnee Mission East that includes Shane's name. The post tags include "wannabe," "poseur" and "asshole," and was submitted by a user calling himself "Red S. Hirt" on March 21.

First things first, I don't agree with you about stem cell research, radical gay rights, or even necessarily abortion being immoral...of course it is a matter of circumstances and is clearly debatable. But that aside if you really want to see an idea of how society could be made better watch "Zeitgeist: Addendum" and "Zeitgeist: Moving Forward"Not saying these are a be all and end all but they seem like a damn good start to me and also illustrate just how much room for positive growth we truly have ahead of us as a civilization.
Poor choices? Ryder went there unarmed to STOP the fighting not to fight. He wanted to make peace. His family, friends, and community all lost a caring, loving, and all around great person.
Maybe Shawnee mission should act upon things before someone ends up dead next time. This is a terrible thing to happen, and I can already see law suit after law suit being filed on prairie village and shawnee mission east. Parents told the school and police on 4 different occasions the reed boys needed to be watched and monitored because they were constantly threatening other kids. Shawnee Mission easts response, "Oh tell your son not to worry about the reed cousins, your son could take them."

The "socialism" of Obimini is based on the immoral supposition that women are entitled to protection of their own bodies and the growing "baby" has no rights at all. The reason I bring capitalism(politics) into this argument is because it serves as a main factor on environment. It can be difficult to impossible for parent(s) to provide quality developmental upbringings for their children when they must work 3 jobs to provide food, clothing, and shelter to their family. The outside influences you spoke of above, (4 days ago now) JBQ21, "gangs" or "wiggers" if you must, then take hold encroaching on the weak, lonely and directionless children "sheep" created from these broken homes. Furthermore if these children have children of their own the cycle usually continues to perpetuate itself. Potentially creating more people in desperate situations of questionable values(like those that committed this horrible crime). These people need help. It's clear they aren't going to get it in the profit-driven society that capitalism creates.
As long as there is inequity there will be ignorance, and as a result there will be crime.
We have to search for the true root of the problem if we ever want to prevent it.
Morals don't often come naturally. We have parents to guide us: ENVIRONMENT. Don't make this a political thing. Socialism did not kill Ryder. Capitalism did not kill Ryder. These boys chose to do it. Environment is only so much responsible. There is an element called free will and personal responsibility. So, how far are you going to take socialism? Obimini is a world socialist. It's only a crime to have money when others are starving and living in hellish conditions because they don't and those who "have", are not there to help. However since it seems that description is relative to everyone to some degree I guess the true blame should be on capitalism itself.. We live in a very flawed system. My name is Meagan Jones, I was Ryder Spillmans girlfriend. Just to clear things up, the cause had absolutely nothing to do with skateboarding. Ryder was not in any sort of gang either. Ropo is not a gang in any way.
actually, i used to live in the shawnee mission school district and i was extremely poor, my bro took care of my family and he worked at a fast food place. i also knew other people like me that went to school there, too

Ryder was my cousin and although I didn't get to know him well I do know that no one deserves to die the way he did. Besides that, its hard enough to deal with losing a loved one but by everyone on here dragging it out and defending the very boys that killed him....it just makes it harder. We never killed anyone, we didnt carry guns and we fought with our fists, if you lost you lost, if you won you won........after a couple of rounds of bare knuckle boxing, most kid problems would be resolved. Im just shocked at how the young kids are these days (man I feel old saying that) I just read that some Florida kids ploted, beat, shot and killed a 16 year old kid because the other kid didnt like him and there was some fugly girls involved also..... Im un-sure if the kids today understand the impact of a murder and its ever lasting affects.
I hope the SMSD expels any student that was involved in this tragedy they are as guilty as Steve and Shane Reed. Schools around the country cannot accept kids acting in the manner as many of you described. Schooles must protect their student body from thugs like the Reeds.
