Two slayings in the last couple of days have taken the total number of homicides in Kansas City, Missouri, to 29 for 2011. That's the lowest number of killings this city has seen at this time in at least the last three years.

But the body count can climb quickly. Within a few hours' span, the city had two homicide victims on the East Side.

Maurice Clark, 24, was shot to death outside an apartment complex in the 6600 block of Monroe around 8:30 p.m. Witnesses saw Clark, a woman and two other men walking

down the street when a black man shot him and ran. Police are still looking for Clark's killer.

The second killing came just hours later at 39th and Chestnut when 33-year-old Jeannette Carroll was shot to death around 3:45 a.m. A witness told police that Carroll was arguing with a black man in his 40s prior to the shooting. The suspect fled the scene in a black Ford Explorer. Police are still looking for the suspect.

If you can help police solve either of these killings, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
