Ban on fake pot and bath salts awaits Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon's signature

  • Bath salts might be off store shelves soon.

The demise of bath salts in Missouri appears to be at hand. A bill banning synthetic drugs, including the so-called body product and K3 phony Mary Jane, has made it to Gov. Jay Nixon's desk in Jeff City.

The state banned the K2 variety of synthetic marijuana last August. But the narrow wording of the ban allowed fake-drug designers to easily create relatively similar concoctions. This new ban has broad language banning more kinds of fake dope. Perhaps more significant is the bill's ban on bath salts, which have made headlines across the state and nation as people have lost their minds and lives while under their influence.

Bath salts, which are said to cause users to feel like they're on coke

and meth, lurched into local headlines last October when St. Joseph man

Jarrod Moody ingested the powder for several weeks and killed

himself. In another odd case in March, Kansas City Police found a

man freaking out and ranting and threatening his ex-girlfriend. But

police weren't able to charge him with anything because bath salts are

perfectly legal.

Rep. Ward Franz (R-West Plains) sponsored the

bill and, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, said, "It's

hurting businesses in my community, and crime in that

area has gone through the roof."

Perhaps unexpectedly, the bill, which

passed 143-13, had some opponents. Rep. Mike Colona (D-St. Louis) didn't like that the ban lumped fake pot and fake

meth/coke together. The paper reports that he argued, "One

leads to neurosis and uncontrollable activities. The other one puts you

to sleep."

Now we wait for the bath salt and K3 black markets. Just like their crazy

ancestor.

Manufacturers were getting around the bans by simply changing the ingredients in k2 herb blends, but what makes lawmakers think these new laws which close that particular loophole are going to do any good? There are still places advertising legal everywhere k2 incense blends, like http://www.k2incense.org . Where there is a will, there is a way!

All of these shops closing is another example of republicans(106 currently sitting in the house) creating jobs. I didn't use this stuff or sell it, but I sold homemade hemp jewelry to these businesses. I went around to the stores that are still open & my sells were next to nothing. I got the same story everywhere I went, we can't buy, we don't know how much longer we can stay open. What next, what are the republicans going to decide they don't like & do away with. We need to remove all republicans from office if there is any hope to restore America to its former glory.

maybe they need to look in Ward Franz's district.  if business's in his community are being hurt by K3 I can only assume the business's being hurt in his community are pot growers.  and any rise in crime, could it at all be effected by the poor economy and rising gas and food prices?  he might want to look into that one, now that the hard stuff is taken care of.

soon we will all be under communist law,  they will be telling us when and when not to take showers,  when and where to do our shopping,  and they will knocking on our doors to make sure we are not doing any thing illegal in our homes..  but what they consider to be legal will all be up to them.. so who knows what will be next..  Thanks Ward Franz for keeping our dreams alive... oh,  and by the way,  I don't remember there being any votes on that bill.. are we not the ones that are paying your wages,  should we not have the right to decide what to put in our own bodies.. if we want to eat rat poison,  for example,  are you going to make that part of your bill too?    I am so disgusted at all of you.....

Really now? So threatening someone is no longer illegal?

Funny how ol' Porky doesn't have any problem jimmying up charges for flipping off a cop or anything else that happens to offend his sensibilities, but can't do anything to actually, you know, protect a member of the public. It's almost like they're letting the guy go on purpose just so they can say, "See? We need laws against those dangerous bath salts!"
