Bubba Starling has a decision to make: Sign a multimillion-dollar contract with the Kansas City Royals or go to college and play football and baseball for the University of Nebraska.
The Royals selected the hometown hero yesterday with the fifth pick in Major League Baseball's draft. But the 6-foot-5, 195-pound center fielder from Gardner Edgerton High School had already committed to play college football and baseball at Nebraska. The Star's Sam Mellinger writes that Starling could be looking at a $6 million (or more) contract if he signs on to play pro baseball. Or he could play quarterback and center field for the Cornhuskers and get an education -- and get laid a million times (not that that's going to be a problem for him wherever he goes). Starling, who grew up a Royals fan, was noncommittal during a conference call last night.
"As far as possibly signing or going up to Nebraska, I've still got a
lot of stuff to figure out," Starling said (via MLB.com). "Right now, I'm just trying to enjoy my moment with my family and
just have fun tonight." However, Royals general manager Dayton Moore sounds confident that he can sign Starling, who Baseball America ranked as the No. 1 high school prospect and the best high school athlete in the draft.
"Guys that love to play and want to play, sign," Moore told Royals beat writer Dick Kaegel.
So what's it going to be, Bubba? Stay or go? The decision won't be an easy one for Starling. He'll have plenty of people whispering in his ear to stay (and plenty in red begging him to go to Lincoln). We'll know by August 15 -- the deadline to sign players.

Well, I didn't know bubba was gay. Gays don't do well in sports, they're too distracted by teammates weiners. Want to see my weiner?
Wow you're a douche. Oh and by the way I like penis.
He has to sign one hit and it could be all over for him, first round money is money and in two or three years if he is terrible he can walk on at Big Red and still play.
If I were Bubba, I wouldn't go to camp at Nebraska because there will be those farmer's daughters girls trying to convince him to go to Nebraska, I think he will get an offer of $7 million but I won't be surprised he squeezed out an extra $1 million to make it $8 million.
As much as I love college sports more than pro...I would have to recommend taking the money now. A lot can happen in the next 3 years before he could get drafted again if he goes to college. The risk of injury is especially high when also playing Football.
Take the 6+ mil, invest it wisely, and never worry about working a serious job for the rest of your life
Sign up for the Royals, Bubba! College degrees aren't worth squat anymore.. take the chance while you have it!!!
