Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who is kinda, maybe, sorta thinking about running for the Republican presidential nomination, announced yesterday that he has invited the nation's governors to Texas for a giant prayer fest. And Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback was quick to sign up for the August 6 event.
Perry is teaming up with the American Family Association, a Mississippi-based conservative Christian organization, to host the event at Houston's Reliant Stadium.
In a letter on the event website, Perry writes:
Some problems are beyond our power to solve, and according to the Bookof Joel, Chapter 2, this historic hour demands a historic response.
Therefore, on August 6, thousands will gather to pray for a historic
breakthrough for our country and a renewed sense of moral purpose.
The site goes on to say our country is pretty much screwed right now.
As a nation, we must come together, call upon Jesus to guide us throughThere will be fasting, too!unprecedented struggles, and thank Him for the blessings of freedom we
so richly enjoy according to His grace, mercy, and kindness towards us.
A historic crisis facing our nation and threatening our future demands a
historic response from the church. We must, as a people, return to the
faith and hope of our fathers. The ancient paths of great men were
blazed in prayer -- the humility of the truly great men of history was
revealed in their recognition of the power and might of Jesus to save
all who call on His great name.
weekend. Last year, Home Depot set up a Kid's Workshop booth at the

Don't the children of gay people need to learn how to use drills and hammers, too?
And don't worry, Brownback will pay his own way to the football stadium of prayer, the Lawrence Journal-World reports.

Even among Republican governors, Brownback is no Quiz Kid. And if Perry can accomplish for the country what he's done for Texas, then "our country is pretty much screwed" will turn out to be the understatement of the millennium.
Rick Perry Invites Governors to Join Him at Event Sponsored by Fundamentalist Hate Group
, the American Family Association, a prominent anti-gay group whose president, Tim Wildmon, told the Trib that Jews, Muslims, atheists and all other non-Christians would “go to hell” unless they accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. One of the group’s directors, Bryan Fischer, has also drawn attention for making controversial statements in recent years about Islam, black women and the Holocaust, which he has blamed on gays in the military.

"Don't the children of gay people need to learn how to use drills and hammers, too?"
Ummm ... not if they have two mommies. Most of them have an affinity for power tools.
Let's see how Kansas has done in recent years:
1) Public Support for Nascar, soccer, and state-owned Casino (Dodge city)
2) Drastically cut funding for K-12 public education
3) Zero'd out funding for arts
4) Bioscience Authority? Don't look at the man behind the curtain.
5) Never, under *any* circumstances mention that the state pension is underfunded by nearly $8b. With no plan to fix.
What should Brownback do?! Clearly: head to Houston and pray.
