Could the Kansas City Chiefs end up as Missouri's only NFL team?

The Kansas City Chiefs could once again be Missouri's lone NFL franchise if there's any truth to a recent OC Register report that the St. Louis Rams are one of five relocation candidates for Los Angeles.

AEG president Tim Leiweke (the biggest of big shots in charge of Kansas City's Sprint Center) told the Register that AEG is interested in buying a majority share of a franchise to move to So Cal -- and he said he has spoken with officials from five teams: Minnesota, San Diego, Oakland, St. Louis and Jacksonville.

"St. Louis, Jacksonville, not extensively, certainly Oakland, San Diego, Minnesota are still in the mix," Leiweke told the Register. "We're not packing any (moving) vans right now."

First one off his lips. Not bad. That's good news for the Rams' owners, who are trying to get a better stadium lease deal and have an out after the 2014 season. They should be sending Leiweke thank-you cards for the leverage he just gave 'em.

At present, there are no NFL teams in Missouri, so this would be an improvement!
