The Kansas City Star's new publisher is Mi-Ai Parrish. McClatchy Co. made the announcement around 11 a.m. today, and the Star filed this story.
Parrish is coming to KC from the Idaho Statesman, where she has been publisher since July 2006, and she is replacing Mark Zieman. Parrish has an impressive-sounding resume of newspaper experience, including the Minneapolis Star Tribune, San Francisco
Chronicle, Arizona Republic, Chicago Sun-Times and Virginian-Pilot. But the real question is, how well versed is she at writing layoff memos to staff?

If she does not know how to layoff journalists, SHE WILL LEARN!
If she does not know how to layoff now, she will learn!
In today's decline for newspapers, perhaps the answer for their turnaround is to put more experienced advertising professionals at the publisher helm. The Star's leadership inthe past several years has come from the editorial side...and we can see how it has declined for lack of innovative ideas and strategic marketing to make itself relevant in this market.
Woah.....Stop the presses! Wow. OK, I, like most who still read the KC Star daily, want the best for the paper. So I wish Mi-Ai all the best and hope she can make vast improvements (Hint: FIRE Mary Sanchez and Jenee Osterheldt, and REHIRE Robert Butler.) in a time where newspapers are dropping at an alarming rate. I am sure she is up to the task. So, good luck to her in that respect. I hope she makes a mark here in KC.
Having said that, there is a devil on my other shoulder that just think she is absolutely gorgeous. Good Lord! Man, if I worked at the Star, I would turn into the biggest toady around her. In fact, I would quit my job right now to be her personal assistant. I would bring her coffee, bagels, mimosas, constantly fan her with a giant palm leaf, and give her hourly foot and/or back rubs. For starters.......Just throwin' that out there if such a position becomes available.
