Sam Brownback visited Leawood on Tuesday and addressed a group of Republicans. The Kansas governor called for party unity, saying Johnson County is "the epicenter where the Democrats always point to split the Republican Party."

Brownback sounded like a boxing commentator as he talked about the upcoming election cycle. The Democrats, Brownback said, would be looking to draw blood with a well-placed fist.

"They know that if they punch us right above the right eye, which the old cut line is right there, they know exactly where to make this punch, and they are going to throw that punch right there every time."

"You know why? Because they know it's there and it works, and it has worked in the past. Silly on us if we can't say, 'Now wait a minute, together we can get more done than severed."

Brownback then told his fellow Republicans to jump rope as he worked a speed bag, an electric-violin version of "Eye of the Tiger" blaring over the Hereford House P.A. system.
