In their effort to recover from the ongoing sex-abuse scandal, the Kansas City-St. Joseph Diocese has removed Vicar General Robert Murphy from his job handling sex-abuse complaints.
Murphy is succeeded as vicar by the Rev. Joseph Powers. Bishop Finn appointed him the same day a suit was filed against the diocese claiming that they failed to comply with the terms of a prior sex-abuse settlement, which required disclosure of all such complaints, reports Catholic Culture.
Powers will now be responsible for reviewing any allegations and acting
as Finn's liaison in such matters. He also oversees any other potential priestly misconduct. He's like the police department's internal affairs division, except instead of busting dirty cops for taking bribes or dealing drugs, he investigates rumors that priests are molesting children, then has long conversations with his boss about whether to call the police department or just move the guy to a new parish.
Prove me wrong, Powers! Please.

If the diocese was serious, they would put a prosecutor,
and investigator, and a victim in charge.
However, they continue to test what the congregation will tolerate.
The congregation knows that there has never been a priest
in the entire world that has spoken up honestly and strongly against child
abuse, and if the congregation will accept another one, they can continue to
hide the truth, which is that the problem is much, much, much worse than we've
seen.
A Grand Jury investigation should take place as soon as
possible.
Bishop Finn and his co-conspirators hid one pedophile
that we know about, but we were lucky to find that one. There are certainly others.
If you are Catholic at all, you should read the first 6
pages of the Phil Grand Jury report at
http://www.philadelphiadistric...
to see what they found when they did an investigation in Philadelphia.
You should demand an investigation in Kansas CIty to see
what else has been covered up.
Not getting involved in the main discussion but I will say that I know Father Powers well.... he is a fine man and is perfect for this job.
