Westboro Baptist Church plans to picket SlutWalk

Surprising no one, the Westboro Baptist Church plans to picket the SlutWalk march in Kansas City on July 30. The mere mention of the word "slut" sent church officials reaching for the finger grease-stained pages of the Old Testament. Leviticus! Deuteronomy! Some other book of the Bible that only sex-obsessed fundamentalists read!

SlutWalk is an international response to a Canadian policeman's advice that women should avoid dressing like "sluts" to maintain their safety. The marches make the point that it's rapists who commit rape and that blaming the victims of sex crimes is unacceptable.

Completely missing the point, Westboro does not acknowledge the crime of sexual assault in its here-we-come press release. Instead, the irony-impaired church quotes Scripture relating to the mouths of whorish women.

UPDATE: A SlutWalk KC Twitter account says the event has been tentatively rescheduled for September.

Get yourself mental health assistance.  You have been duped!  Actually, you are probably a member of the church and one of the relatives pretending NOT to be. HA!  Go back to your church of SATAN because that is who they truly revere!

Helos - So, you think the stepping on the flag and wiping their feet on it is OK also? Fred Phelps is just an evil man with nothing but anger in his soul. You can see it in his eyes if you ever watch him preach. He actually use to beat his children with an ax handle, two of his 13 kids disowned him when they grew up. This guy, this church, does not represent the Christian faith, or any other faith for that matter. Protesting at a soldiers funeral is nothing more than a disrespect act towards people who fight everyday for this church to have the freedom to call our country, our home, our beloved land shitty and to write songs with lyrics "I'm ashamed to be an America"...they are one of the worst our country has to offer. You should really watch "Most hated Family in America" documentary to learn what this family and church are truly about, or even "Falling from Grace". Look at Fred Phelps eyes when he is talking about gays "eating children", his eyes, I swear you can see his dark heart.

A woman should have the right to dress as they fell  walking down the street without being harassed or even raped. That's like saying, if a child molester is caught, blaming the child for walking home from school. "the kid should not of been in front of my house". It is totally stupid argument, it is placing blame on the victim. When people blame women for "dressing like a slut" so that is why they where raped, or what ever the situation maybe, they are giving the preparatory permission to due the crime, cause "it isn't his fault".

I'm incredibly thankful for the soldier funeral pickets. I really
didn't understand it when I first heard of you guys, a few years ago when the
Snyder lawsuit was on the news. It didn't make sense why anti-fag protesters
would target the military since the military was the only line of work in the
country which open fags weren't allowed to get into. I thought WBC was probably
a fake outfit funded by the ADL or something to get conservative-type people to
turn away from religion and support fags, as silly as that sounds. Now I see
that the country has been given over to perverts for a great long time, and that
WBC was right and everyone else was wrong. I mean, it's just too obvious now,
with fags in the military, fags marrying, fags everywhere.

I think WBC are the ones really supporting the soldiers. Everyone
else will lie and tell young people that this nation is worth defending. I like
a lot of the people I met in the Marines way more than civilians I meet, who
tend to be mostly self-absorbed drug addicts and/or habitual whoremongers. A lot
of Marines I met were really interesting people. I'm glad DADT was repealed,
though, because now everyone getting killed for this country will be a hardcore,
knowing fag or fag enabler. When I was in, there were a lot of people who
foolishly thought America was a good country, blessed by God, and that they were
doing good work, killing enemies of Jesus or whatever. It's sad because this is
such a terrible country, hated by God, and these kids were lied to their entire
lives. I myself enjoyed the Marines and going to Iraq, but I always thought the
USA sucked. One of the reasons I liked Iraq was that I wasn't in America,
actually.

Anyhow, your church would have never been so heavily publicized if
you didn't picket soldier's funerals, and I would be in the dark about God. I
used to think Christianity was horrible, I thought "This God just loves everyone
and forgives people no matter what they do? This is causing a lot of problems!"
So I'm thankful you've been warning people, and I'm thankful to have heard that
warning.

"Judging by the pictures of the Canada slutwalk, rape shouldn't be a
problem at this one unless the march meanders by a barnyard."

Why, because rapists only rape "attractive" women? You're still blaming rape on the characteristics of the victim. Stop doing that!

Judging by the pictures of the Canada slutwalk, rape shouldn't be a problem at this one unless the march meanders by a barnyard.

Yes inappropriate touching is immoral and wrong but at the same time people have a responsibility not to put themselves in dangerous situations. Those two ideas are not incompatible which is what gives people cognitive dissonance when they think about the slutwalk -- it conflates a moral imperative with a practical response to danger.

As for the Westboro Baptist Church, they just want the attention, so let's not give it to them.

Under no circumstances are you EVER entitled to touch another person's body. This is something you're supposed to learn in kindergarten. As a woman I am always aware that my dress and my demeanor could result in my being attacked by someone else and blamed for it. That is wrong. I should not have to spend any mental energy figuring out how to not be attacked. More severe punishment of sexual predators would have a deterrent effect and needs to be enacted.

I think they should ban the protesting.  It’s more of a freedom to organize issue than
a freedom of speech issue.  Anyone with
common decency would agree it’s wrong.   What
are Fred Phelps and the WBC afraid of anyhow? Rainbows? Unicorns? A flaming
pink queer apocalypse?  I attempted to
address this with a portrait of the good reverend on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot...  Drop in and let me know what you think!

It is not a church, this is a hate group. Westboro Baptist
Church says they hate the Gay-Community. But, they also hate African Americans,
Dr. & Mrs. King, Canada, Sweden, the Fire Department of N.Y., victims of
911, other Christian churches, the pope, Judaism, America, our American troops
and the list goes on and on.

This group spreads its hate through picketing in our streets,
provoking attacks, with abusive language and flag desecration, attempting to
create a confrontation. This is not about protesting, freedom, or God. They are
in it for the money and the press; this is a family law firm. They are not a
"church." It is a scam. They go after any thing that can get them in
the news.

The city of Topeka, the state of Kansas and the U.S. at large,
its citizens and their churches, schools and events are all held hostage by
this "hate group” and always at the tax payer's expense.

On a logical level, I would say that equivalency would be buying the plasma TV.  I mean if you just kept a 13" black and white set in your living room no one would steal it.  If you choose to have something more to your liking, then how can you blame a thief for stealing it.

On an emotional level, I think comparing having a TV stolen to the emotional and physical damage of rape probably means that you have no idea about the latter.  I wouldn't even wish it upon you.  Criticize social norms as much as you want (because no one put out in the 70s or 80s and prostitution wasn't openly displayed and wide spread in this town for much of it's existance), but rape is still rape.  People have the freedom to do what they want with their body, but when they choose to do it to someone else's it is as wrong now as it ever was.

If I understand the analogy correctly then you are basically saying that rape is wrong but women invite the rape by wearing the wrong kind of clothes just as the home owner is basically inviting a thief into his home by leaving his door unlocked with a note announcing that he has a nice television...Do I have that right?

report
Posted by Andrew on 07/22/2011 at 12:10 PM

If I leave my front door unlocked with a note saying, "really awesome Plasma TV inside" am I a smart homeowner?  The burglar is still a criminal, but am I really taking good precautions?

And not to sound like a huge dork here but people nowadays are so emotionally immature they don't need any help jumping from bed to bed (or non-committal casual sex relationships).  Perhaps we should encourage actual relationships over trysts?    On the other hand....bawdy sluts!
