Why, yes, the Mid-America Pole Dancing Championships are being held this weekend

I repeat: Inner thigh hold.
  • I repeat: Inner thigh hold.
I repeat: Inner thigh hold.
What's summer without sports? There's nothing quite like sitting back on a hot July night and watching some world-class athletes compete at the top of their game

Of course, there's more than one way to do that. Look, if you want to spend the waning days of summer at Kauffman Stadium watching the Royals get spanked, that's your business. You could do that, or you could go to the sporting event I'm about to tell you about. Mine involves a steel pole and something called an "inner thigh hold."

Tonight and Saturday, Bazooka's Showgirls is hosting the Mid-America Pole Dancing Championships. Local and out-of-town dancers will be judged on their ability to execute a set routine and one of their own design. Rules require dancers to do things like "spinning inversions" and the aforementioned "inner thigh hold," maneuvers that sound really, really hard, and really, really hot.

The competition -- there are professional and amateur divisions -- has been advertised in states across the Midwest. Our understanding is that most of the amateurs brave enough to enter the contest live in this area. So for all you know, one of the performers could be the dental assistant you see when you get your teeth cleaned. One could be your boss. OK, probably not, but there's only one way to find out.

Grand prize is a Lil' Mynx Dance Pole, which goes for $450 on Amazon and, according to the company website, is the preferred home stripper pole of Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Quality.

Check it out, folks. You're welcome.
