The Amish love making love in Missouri

  • I'm coming for ye, English.

For longer than I can remember, there's been some terrified white person telling me that the immigrant hordes would come to this country, breed, and take over our democracy with either a repressive religious doctrine (Muslims) or their willingness to do hard labor for little pay (everyone who is brown). So, with this story about the Amish, I'm sure the local tea partiers will be including a talk about the "Butter Churning Menace" at their next meeting.

Apparently, while you were all watching the border, you should have been watching the undeveloped farming communities in your own backyard. Missouri now has the fourth-highest Amish population growth in the country, with 41 settlements and more than 10,000 Amish living in the state.

We're through the looking glass, KC.

Missouri's Amish population grew by 15 percent over the last two years, fueled by large family size, high retention rates and immigration, according to a review by Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania.

Missouri is attractive to the Amish, researchers say, because of available and reasonably priced farmland, as well as the rural isolation that assures them of the privacy they cherish.

Western -- as in Western Culture, Western Civilization, Western Values. What is "American" anyway? I bet you have no answer aside from a few platitudes.

Your "guess" is idiotic. The Amish are essentially European Christian circa 1850.

And brown people ARE scary -- my guess is that even a fool like yourself would rather live in an Amish area than Detroit or Mexico.

My guess is that you know basically nothing about the Amish culture and religion, and couldn't list one of those aspects of Western heritage if you had to.  Your comment comes down to 'brown people are scary and white people aren't.'

When you wrote Western did you mean American? I just wanted to make sure you said what you meant to say, because there's a difference, and I want to make sure I'm correcting the misconception you actually meant to argue.

The Amish preserve an aspect of Western heritage whereas the other groups you mention destroy it. Simple.

They're not bound to pay taxes, nor have to have medical insurance like the rest of us will.

If that were a TV show on HBO or AMC, I would watch it.

The Amish in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania went into the meth business with the Pagans motorcycle gang in the 90s.

It is a good thing they are pacifists otherwise they would murder the English in their sleep.

They are not only well known for their mistreatment of animals but they will put a 7-year-old child in charge of running a saw mill or other hazardous duties. No OSHA for them.

In retrospect, I should have done more thorough reporting for this blog joke about the Amish murdering you in your sleep with farm tools. But I'm glad we can all agree that part is accurate.

Your writing is more than a little convoluted when you mix national illegal immigration with trans-state perfectly legal immigration. In fact we just call the latter ‘moving’.

The Amish are citizens, pay income taxes and are entitled to all rights and entitlements afforded any other American citizen. Illegal immigrants are not entitled to any of the rights or resources this nation affords its citizens.

Don't forget about our recently "reformed" laws on puppy mills! They love mistreating animals almost as much as they hate zippers.
