Forgotten in all the heat-advisory warnings we've seen this July is one very important at-risk group. If you live with someone prone to domestic violence, and you still haven't been able to get away from the asshole, now is definitely the time to go.

Staff at the Rose Brooks Center are reporting a big increase in calls to their domestic-violence hotline. It's not that normally reasonable people get violent when the temperature goes up, but that people already prone to abusive actions are even more likely to snap.

If you're worried that this applies to someone you know, remember the domestic-violence hotline is available 24 hours a day, and there's a safe place waiting if needed. You can call the hotline at 816-468-5463 for information on housing, financial aid, medical aid, counseling, and shelters, and remember the call is free.
