"This debt deal was a terrible deal, without balance or real compromise," Cleaver wrote. "Democrats got nothing in this deal, but what truly troubles me is that the American people got less than nothing. I still believe that the budget of the United States is a moral document; it should reflect our commitment to protect the poor and the middle-class, defend our commitments to seniors, and make wise investments to create good jobs and strengthen our economy."
All of this said, Cleaver writes that he wasn't about to let the country fall into default. So he would have voted for the deal had his vote been needed.
Cleaver goes on to say that a better deal would be one "with both spending cuts and revenue increases to reduce the deficit and rebuild our economy."
Will someone throw the reverend a heavenly hambone?

In his first year as mayor of KC, Cleaver took his family on a Florida vacation and charged a chunk of it along with the rental car on his city expense account, when he fully knew that was dead wrong.
When caught red-handed, just like Claire, he paid up and thought everything was OK.
He showed his true colors way back then, but a bunch of idiots keep electing him to steal some more.
I guess you could call that a satan sammich if you like.
He's right. It was a satan sandwich. And the Democrats got stomped on in this debt deal. They got none of their demands and the GOP got almost all of theirs. Only reason they voted for it at all was to keep the economy from going into a tailspin if the debt ceiling wasn't passed.
Well I wonder was it as satan sandwich when he brought that sax for a so called negro musem that nobody goes and visits? Was it a satan sandwich when he let all that money go to zona rosa that was for the east side of town? (3rd and 5th district) What about when he forgot to pay his taxes for the car wash he and his owned?
