Kyle James, 22, pulled the old "do you know who I am" routine with an in-uniform, off-duty cop while causing a ruckus at Fran's around 4 a.m. on July 30. The cop handcuffed James to stop him from leaving without paying his tab. James threw a fit and told the cop that the mayor was his daddy, and he'd have the officer fired.
The Kansas City Star reported that James read an apology from a prepared statement on Friday, saying: “I would like to apologize to the Police Department and Fran’s Restaurant for my blatant disrespect. I clearly have a lot to learn. … The way I behaved is unacceptable to myself as a person and in turn has embarrassed those whom I care about.”
Kyle James told reporters that his father didn't yell at him but was obviously "frustrated." He also claimed that he didn't want special treatment.
“I don’t know what I was thinking when I made those comments," James said. "Believe me, if I could take it back, I would.”
Kyle James has said he would like to apologize in person to the officer and pay the $30 tab he stuck a Fran's manager with. Too bad it took media attention for him to see how foolish he had acted.
