Fox 4 is reporting that Jeff Fink died Tuesday, about two weeks after collapsing with a 108-degree temperature during the two-day event held at Tiffany Springs Park. Citing the Caring Bridge website, the TV station reported that Fink's lungs "gave in" while doctors tried to treat an infection.
KMBC spoke with Red Frog Events organizer Lauren Shield: "We are very sad to hear that Jeff Fink has passed. The entire team at Red Frog Events has his family and friends in our thoughts. Safety is the No. 1 priority at our events, and we genuinely care about our racers and spectators. We worked closely with local authorities and took measures including providing double the standard amount of water trucks and cooling stations and providing triple the amount of water bottles for all racers. We are deeply saddened to hear this news."
Jeremiah Morris, 28, died after collapsing during the event. He apparently suffered heat stroke. Morris' friends blamed the event's organizers for not supplying enough water or cooling stations.
