Matt Cassel may ruin your fantasy football team

Matt Cassel: Regression to the mean, anyone?

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel surprised people with his performance last season. He threw 27 touchdowns, led his team to the playoffs and played in the Pro Bowl.

Fantasy-football owners who took a flyer on Cassel before the 2010 season were happy they did. But one expert thinks Cassel is a bad play in 2011. ESPN's Matthew Berry has the Chiefs QB and his main target, wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, on his Players I Hate list.

In a piece posted yesterday at ESPN.com, Berry suggests that the success of the Chiefs' passing game in 2010 was a bit of a fluke:

"Remember that easy schedule they had last year? Yeah, they don't have that anymore. Remember that most-rushing-attempts-in-the-NFL offense they had last year? Yeah, they still have those backs. Remember the lack of production in the final five games and the brutal playoff loss without Charlie Weis? Yeah, you don't want any part of that."

Chiefs fans who play fantasy football should be especially wary of Cassel. Because there's nothing worse than watching a mediocre quarterback bring down your "real" team as well as one that's matched up against Steve in accounting.
