Russell Gray Jr. and Vernon Thurman killed in double homicide

Kansas City police are investigating a double homicide.

The Labor Day weekend saw a double homicide on Sunday afternoon. Police were called to a shooting at East 37th and Benton around 4:45 p.m.

Officers were contacted by one of the shooting victims who was in a private vehicle at East 47th and Benton. The shooting victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died. A second shooting victim was rushed by ambulance from East 37th and Benton to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

KMBC reported that the victims were 24-year-old Russell Gray Jr. and 25-year-old Vernon Thurman. The TV station interviewed a man who said he was related to the victims. LaDon Nichols said he believed Gray and Thurman had "a confrontation with one another."
