The representative was less than delicate when debating that women shouldn't complain that rape victims who get pregnant as a result of their assault should have abortion services covered. DeGraaf, who is a pastor, explained that if women are so concerned they're going get pregnant after an assault, then have the gall to get an abortion, they can just buy a rider. It's all about planning ahead, he said.
From the May 13 edition of the McPherson Sentinel:
Rep. Pete DeGraaf, a Mulvane Republican who supports the bill, told [Rep. Barbara Bollier]: "We do need to plan ahead, don't we, in life?"
Bollier asked him, "And so women need to plan ahead for issues that they have no control over with pregnancy?"
DeGraaf drew groans of protest from some House members when he responded, "I have a spare tire on my car."
"I also have life insurance," he added. "I have a lot of things that I plan ahead for."
The ACLU sued to block the law, but, the Associated Press reports today, a judge rejected their argument. U.S. District Judge Wesley Brown ruled that the ACLU didn't prove that the bill "primarily intended to create obstacles to obtaining abortions."
Time for Kansas women to start planning ahead.

So by the same logic I see here insurance companies shouldn't be required to help people get pregnant since God decided in the first place they shouldn't. Therefore those that use any artificial means of having a child are then also going against God's will and creating a creature that is not of God's desire but their own selfishness. If the religious type don't want to pay for what they consider others sins why should we pay for theirs?
to alive for now.....I never said anything about wanting others to agree with me. You're reading into it what you want to think about what I said not what I said. I'm for the protection of the innocents who can't protect themselves and all for the killing of convicted criminals who earned the death penalty. What about that is hard for you to comprehend?
We don't think that everyone who is uncomfortable with or opposed to abortion rights is a hopless extremist. However, it is certainly extreme to support terrorism against people who provide family planning services and it is extreme to torment women who have unwanted pregnancies with vicious propaganda and denial of basic health care services. If not extreme it is certainly questionable for you to think that because you regard an early term fetus as equivalent to a living breathing human being that everyone should feel the same way and that you can and should impose your views on us. We prefer to focus our energy on helping the living.
since when did the protection of human life, particularly for those who can't protect themselves become "extreme"....you may want to check your own views and motivations.
It is not a sound argument to say that someone opposed to the reckless and haphazard use of the death penalty should also be opposed to a pregnant woman's right to choose for herself whether to have an abortion in the early stages of a pregnancy. To many of us, there is no point in forcing women in early stages of pregnancy to carry to term. Let the pregnant woman decide for herself. It is a somewhat separate issue as to insurance coverage, but we see no reason why insurance should cover some gynecological services but not others. Let the women who have these difficult and/or unwanted pregnancies whether from rape or failed birth control make their own choices. Spare them your extreme views about this and stop all the terrorism and legal games aimed only at effectively eliminating the right to choose to have an abortion.
to former employee of ks, the percentage of abortions performed as a result of a pregnancy from rape is miniscule. I have no issue with an abortion for this reason. the majority of abortions performed are effectively a last ditch means of birth control, a fact which can't be argued. I'm not in favor of the death penalty for anyone who is "innocent", convicted criminals get no sympathy from me...I'd love to see the ratio of death penalty executions vs abortions turn the other way....whats the current statistic 1 Million abortions a year vs 100-1000 executions....society would be much better off for the switch.
Look , we don't think abortion is murder. You have this obsessive need to have as many potential lives come to term, even those conceived by violent rape. We disagree. You have managed to convince yourself that terminating a fetus that could not survive outside the womb and has no consciousness is the same as killing a baby. We disagree. The ACLU disagrees. Most Americans agree with us. Sorry. Our viewpoint is rational, so there is no contradiction in opposing the death penalty (especially for the wrongly convicted).
I'm always amused by the hypocrisy of the ACLU, they are all for "saving" convicted murderers from the death penalty, but against saving "innocent" babies from abortion......what gives?
I wonder if the statistics and biology were different, in that more men were raped than women and these men were forced to carry for 9 months and give birth to a child that resulted from the most terrifying, humiliating, degrading and demoralizing act they ever experienced, would the vote or the State Rep's opinion have been different?
Thank GOD hopefully this fantastic new LAW will help stop the MURDER of innocent babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
