October is "Zombie Preparedness Month" in Kansas. For real. The Sunflower State's emergency-management officials are encouraging folks to prepare for a zombie apocalypse. Really, it's on the state's website.
"You may laugh now, but you may even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency at the same time," the site says.
Kansas is encouraging people to make a Zombie Preparedness public service announcement and to take part in the all-ages coloring contest and to schedule zombie walks in their communities.
I'd also suggest watching the new season of Dead Wait, the locally produced Web series. Season two debuts at noon Wednesday. More on that later.
Also, ex-Star film critic Robert Butler offers some tips on killing zombies (courtesy of the Kansas City Public Library).

When the idea of a zombie outbreak happens, I am going to have my 7 iron and a bottle of Jack Daniels ready to go.
I am a little worried. Do I need wooden stakes (will MDF work??) or silver bullets? Where can I get real holy water - not that crap they sell at Westboro Baptist church? Are zombie farts lethal or is that just an urban myth?
