Phill Kline's law license should be suspended indefinitely, ethics panel says

  • Phill Kline's Kansas law license may be in jeopardy.
A Kansas ethics panel has recommended indefinitely suspending the law license of former Attorney General and Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline. Not that it matters much since Kline's law license has already lapsed, and he has moved to Virginia to teach law at the Jerry Falwell-founded Liberty University.

Disciplinary Administrator Stanton Hazlett issued a statement saying the panel of three Kansas attorneys presiding over the case called Kline's investigation of abortion clinics “dishonest and selfish” and recommended that the the Kansas Supreme Court indefinitely suspend Kline's law license in the Sunflower State. The decision is now up to the state's high court.

"The Hearing Panel concluded that the Respondent has repeatedly violated many of the Kansas Rules of Professional Conduct, including the most serious of the rules, the rules that prohibit engaging in false or dishonest conduct," the 184-page report says.

The panel also wrote: "It also appears that the Respondent violated the oath of attorneys by consenting to the commission of numerous falsehoods."

Among the allegations against Kline: As AG, Kline and his minions tried to identify the names of abortion patients, which Kline had told the Kansas Supreme Court wasn't part of his investigation. However, one of Kline's investigators recorded license tags of visitors to abortion provider George Tiller's Wichita clinic. His investigators also subpoenaed a guest list from a hotel frequented by Tiller's patients.

Kline was also in hot water for talking about the case on The O'Reilly Factor with Bill O'Reilly and the handling of the redacted medical records. Kline used to claim that the redacted medical records were kept "under lock and key." The disciplinary panel disagreed.

"The redacted patient medical records were not kept 'under lock and key,' " the report says. "The statement made to the Disciplinary Administrator is not a true statement. For five weeks, the redacted patient medical records were kept in a Rubbermaid container in Mr. Reed’s apartment."

Reed refers to Jared Reed, who was an investigator for Kline. The redacted records were kept in an open garage, private vehicle and in an investigator's dining room.

Kline released a statement blaming a court appointed by former Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (via the Star).

"The panel did what they were instructed to do. This is the latest chapter of a Sebelius appointed court covering up for a Sebelius political benefactor in order to protect the flow of hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer dollars. The Sebelius court joined Planned Parenthood to file this complaint, appointed the prosecutor, appointed the panel and will make the final decision. Our Constitution was created to end such conduct. The ethics process is being used to punish political opponents. Even so, the dominant tragedy in this saga is that through my investigation it was learned hundreds of children were sexually abused in Kansas, and Kansas has still done nothing. Nothing in the panel’s 185 page opinion can alter that truth.

"I upheld my duty, upheld my oath of office and the integrity of my profession. My ‘mistake’ was my willingness to investigate politically powerful people and to let that investigation go where the evidence led. It is a decision, however, I would repeat and I will continue to speak and stand for the truth and for those who cannot speak for themselves."

Hey Drew.. It's called fighting the hypocrisy, confronting the issue, and presenting the alternative side. Consider going to Fox News, and bitching at Bill O'Reilly. I think he actually encourages it. And.. I secretly want to introduce doubt into the mindless minions being told what to believe by liberal journalists presenting only half the story. Journalists have purpose, and that purpose is to keep government in check. Obviously, they are going soft on Obama. It basically screws over the general public. I'm doing a public service keeping the liberal media from fucking up society by letting the US government turn us all into Canadians. I really hope I make you uncomfortable and introduce doubt, Drew.

kline was a corrupt idot. Morrison was a just an idiot with no hidden agenda. One was a private matter, one was a very public power grab.

Jack, why do you go to a liberal alternative weekly newspaper's website and bitch about how fucking liberal it is?

Jack, you are comparing apples to oranges... Kline abused the powers of the office, Morrison abused his marriage in a consensual, albeit unprofessional relationship. Although I would prefer not to choose one or the other, I prefer a moral idiot over an ethical idiot.

Where is the pressure for the suspension of Paul Morrison's license? We won't hear about that now will we, Justin Kendall? Face it, they were both assholes. They both broke ethics laws. Kline is guilty and so is Morrison. However, Kline's statement remains true. He was targeted by Sebelius and her mindless liberal minions. Justin, I would suggest you look into Paul Morrison's professional conduct. But, I wouldn't want to suggest you do ACTUAL journalism... that would be too much work. Mindless minions, and lazy journalists.... Same shit, different day.

Not as big of a public display of Kline's hypocrisy as I would like to see, but a good start. Can you imagine what type of brownshirts come out of the classrooms of Kline and Faldwell? Also ironic that he teaches at a place named "Liberty University" when he restricts freedom and liberty as much as he can by any means he can.
