Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder hasn't yet officially announced that he's running for governor, and his latest campaign fundraising report might be a message that the Cape Girardeau Republican isn't ready to replace Jay Nixon.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Kinder raised $410,000 in the last quarter, less than one-third of the $1.46 million that Nixon took in. Nixon now has $4.2 million on hand, while Kinder has $1.5 million squirreled away.

The paper reports that Kinder spent $517,000 on research, advising and polls in the quarter, so he actually lost money for the quarter. Kinder spent much of the three-month period ending on September 30 putting out fires and trying to shore up his reputation after news leaked that he hung out at a strip club years ago. He still attracted some big-name donors, including Texas Gov. and Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry.

But the tales of Kinder's relationship with a former Penthouse Pet and St. Louis stripper have soured some in the state GOP on his viability as a candidate.

David Humphreys, a big-time Republican donor who has given Kinder's campaign $165,000, has called for him to give up his post.

The latest financial news doesn't appear to have deterred Kinder from his plans. His campaign has said he will make a big announcement in November.
