Funkhouser posted an ad on Craigslist offering his 1996 Toyota Corolla for $2,250. The ad, posted October 21, reads: "This little red Corolla is the vehicle former Mayor Funkhouser drove during his 2007 campaign and all throughout his time in office. Like it's owner, it's rough around the edges, but extremely dependable. We are in town this weekend and will have limited time to show it."
The ad is still online, so maybe the Funk hasn't been able to dump his Corolla. So here are a few more details: Funk's Corolla has 134,000 miles on it and a salvage-only title.
"Rough in appearance, hence the salvage title, but runs great," the ad says.
The ad fits the timeline on Funk's Facebook page, which said he was back in KC for the National Association of Schools of Public Administration conference, "looking to build partnerships between Governing and the MPA Schools."
Funkhouser tried to use the Corolla during his campaign and his time as mayor as a symbol of his Everyman persona. If you want to drive like Funk, here's the ad.

@ Tisha See-------Isnt Bud owned by a European conglomerate??? Hate to be nitpicker.
@ John Norris-----Take it from a used car dealer----You are right about the early 90s Ford Trucks ----they are sturdy vehicles. I steer clear of all VWs Audis, and last but not least---Saab----they really blow!! A salvage title 95 any brand is only worth about 900 or 1000.
To the Nissan lover, I drive a 91' Ford pick-up with 185,000 miles and it's still goin' FORD tough! DUH!
It's a global business economy. You as a person have the right to buy the best product available. I live in and around KC, MO but proudly drive a 1997 Honda Civic with 175,000 miles on it and it still runs like a dream. And it has NEVER broken down on me.
To those who question if my computer, clothes ect. are made in America, what we do make here..yes! I do think "BUY AMERICAN" first before I buy ANYTHING and as you may well know that is hard to find..BUT my point was that he was the MAYOR of Kansas City and he had 2 plants in HIS city and yet he CHOSE to drive a Toyota. As for the ones who say they "used" to buy Fords..obviously you haven't driven a FORD lately! And as for GM taking the buy out..I agree WE ALL PAID FOR THAT!! THAT'S why I drive a FORD..the company who's employee's gave up so much in order for FORD NOT to have to take the bail out. Of course this argument could go on and on, but the point of my comment was that KANSAS CITY was the Mayors "bread and butter" and I FEEL, that if you not only work for but represent a city you should support that city whole heartedly..nothing more nothing less....By the way, I do have a Marbeck vaccume, NB shoes, and drink Bud....and yes my computer is a DELL, which has plants in Texas,Tennessee and N. Carolina....
bring that toyoto and put in scrap yard, were they belong
@ justthefactsmaam Um. actually nothing you mentioned is made in america, do you have all your facts? maybe assembled in america with foreign components.
To Tisha see, I'm sure your computer is made in america, as are your clothes, your cell phone, your tv and most all other electronics in your home. Hypocrite much?
I'd buy GM if they'd start making the Buick Riviera again.
Besides....after I [you too] bailed them out, I should be able to get financing no matter how bad my credit is.

Buy American? Why? I thought this country embraced free enterprise? If Ford and Chevy lasted more than a few thousand miles maybe people would buy them. I used to buy Ford but they fell apart and wouldn't stay out of the shop. My last two Nissans lasted over 215,000 miles. They both did over 95mph when they passed 200,000. Ford or Chevy would have rattled to death at that speed!
No doubt when you honk the horn instead of a "beep" it's a recording of Gloria screeching "Move your ass, Funk!" Also, the air freshener hanging from the rearview mirror is smudge pot scent.
