Katie my family and i really miss you weather forecast kctv 5 isnt the same without you. I dont even watch the weather anymore cuz they are boring and dont talk about any town outside the metro and area town close . You talked about how the storms were heading towards sedilia or at least the towns east of kck like higginsville, concordia ,ect. You are missed and my daughters and I still do the buddy check
I don't agree with all of the hatred towards any one news station or person as I think they are all passionate about what they do. I just wish they would get to the point and get off. all of them say the same thing about five different ways and stretch the weather segment out way to long. Give me the high, low and if it's going to rain, snow or be sunny. I don't need you to show me the high on a graph and then again on a chart and then again on a diiferent map. waste of time. Show more feel good stories on the news and cover sports more.
I to was not happy when they took the old crew off of channel 5 but I did enjoy Katie and her accuracy. When she left I started looking at 4 in the morning with Don, and we all know what happen to him. Katie I will miss you, especially when a storm hits or winter shows its self. Thank you for all the warnings.
Katie Horner will be missed by many. Say what you will. But while on the air, she delivered the weather more accurately than any other station. You may have gotten scared now and then. But I'm sure that there are more folks who feel they owe their lives to her reports. And that's more important than her personal life. She'll be missed. And without her I won't miss channel 5 news.
The "suits" at Channel 5 got rid of Anne Peterson; now they've gotten rid of Katie Horner (it looks like they don't want anyone over 25). They have a right to choose their employees, but, guess what? We have the right to choose which channel we watch! I, for one, am doing just that! Goodbye, Channel 5--hello, Channels 4, 9, and 13!
Kudos to Katie for her upbeat demeanor and caring for the people. She took her job seriously and I applaud her for that. She wasn't the only one being forced to drone on and on just to keep their station at the forefront with face time. Every single network channel does the same thing any more - NBC the least of all. I have long had it with CBS reporting - they repeat everything over and over and over every 15 minutes. I'm afraid if I were a newscaster on that station I would dread coming to work every day but Katie hung in there and still tried to make her job interesting and pleasant for us to watch. Good luck to you Katie! And to you snot nosed kids making comments about her being the only cougar left, your day will come. :)
i could not watch her and so glad she is gone. look every little rain shower and she would make it out to be a huge storm moving in or she would talk about storms way far away from us and just go on and on bye bye
My wife and I called her "Catastrophe Kaite", because every weather event was major...no matter how minor. She would get on the air and go on, and on, and on...very full of herself. Agreed...time for a change.

I was sick of her personal story intertwining in the broadcast all the time. I quit watching nearly 2 years ago. While cancer awareness is important the, I was really sick of the incessant and shameless promotion of the Komen Foundation which spends a tiny fraction of the millions they raise on research and even less on improving the lives of cancer patients.
THE ONLY REASON I WATCHED KCTV5 WAS BECAUSE OF KATIE. SHE WAS SPOT ON WITH HER WEATHER PREDICTIONS. WHAT FOOL WOULD NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE WEATHER WAS DOING WHEN THERE IS SEVERE WEATHER WARNINGS IN THE AREA??? THAT NEW PERSON THEY HAVE NOW, WELL I TRIED TO WATCH HIM 2 OR 3 TIMES, BUT HE IS SO DRAB SOUNDING AND HE DOES NOT KNOW THE SURROUNDING CITY, TOWNS, OR COUNTIES AND HE GETS FLUSTERED WHEN HE MAKES A MISTAKE. I stopped watching kctv5 when they got rid of Chris and Dana. I love Gary but I could not stand the unprofessionalism of their replacements. Not so much the new guy, but the girl was horrible. I waited until evening to catch weather with Katie because she didn't seem like a flake. I don't understand all of this "scare kids" and other nonsense that has been said here. It is a parent's job to parent their kids. Don't let them watch the news if they can't handle it. It looks like kctv5 finally got the a.m. girl wrangled in to where I can go back to watching weather in the a.m. because I can not stand the guy they have now. He should be working in the mail room...maybe that's where they found him.
Katie has three children (all girls) by two husbands. Not very unique these days at all. Where did anyone get the "four kids by five men"? I wasn't a fan of her weather reporting, either, and usually watched a different station. But there's no reason for slinging mud at someone you don't even know. If you didn't like her, you didn't need to watch her.

I miss Katie and her weather reports the news does not seem the same without seeing her smiling face every night she will be missed now I have to find someone else who is interesting that delivers my forecast ;(
KCTV 5 is to blame for Katie's "Sky is falling" and "scaremonger" approach to weather reporting, not her. The TV stations choreograph every thing that their employees do and say on the clock. Blame it on KCTV 5. Personally I miss Anne Petersen's " elderly lady way before her time" approach to newscasting. I was quoting ME on that last one!!
I went to KCTV5 today for the weather, I was surprised no Katie. I will miss not hearing katie's forecast she cared and was right on the money. Wish you the best Katie, will miss you.

I too was annoyed with K.H's interruptions for the slightest amount of wind or percipitation, which I hear was the main issue. But couldn't the producers have reined her in before cutting her lose?
Shoot-I'm going to miss Katie's histrionics and "sky is falling" approach to weather forecasting. On a positive note though, never again will I have to take cover when a tornado touches down in Iowa.

I see I was not the only one who felt Katie Horner was the biggest scaremonger in KC. I'm relieved she's gone, but why is Gary Amble not in her place?! He's wonderful and this should be his job now, not this nobody they brought in. Once again, I'll be looking elsewhere for my weather.

I have lived in 6 states and Katie was the best weather person I have ever seen. She was almost always right on, you could trust what she said. She made you feel very safe during spring storms. She was the only reason we watched KCTV, but you can rest assured that we won't be watching again. Also posting all the hateful comments. How hurtful and nasty can one station be?
Now we all know meteorologists (gay or straight) wind up doing porn. So it's a one way ticket to California for good ol' Katie.
I will never forget Katie giving us the all clear during the 10 PM news. Then a tornado touch down in Gladstone at 2:30 AM while we all slept.

Great job, Katie! For nearly two decades you served your KCTV5 viewing audience very well.
We could always depend on being able to tune in and get the complete, up to date weather news. This was much more important when the storm clouds darkened, the lightening flashed, and the thunder clapped than any sitcom, crime show, or "reality" hit. Weather is a for real reality. Thank you again, and sincere best wishes. May you future be filled with sunshine and a rainbow after every storm.

Perhaps it is because she is so wholesome and represents such good family values to the community that the "suits" are not renewing her contract.

Sometimes when there was even a hint of severe weather she would be the only weather person interrupting programing, only to repeat the same information ad nausuem. She woud drone on and on even when the threat was miminal. I wil not miss her.

I have no doubt we would be warned by our current meteorologists. I have a problem replacing programming with continuous coverage for a storm that has passed out of the viewing area some time ago unless there is great local damage. The technology is there for a scroll across the bottom of the screen when there is no immediate danger to the viewing public.
