Derek Hubbard charged with murder in weekend triple homicide

Posted by Justin Kendall on Mon, Nov 14, 2011 at 1:10 PM

Derek Hubbard allegedly killed his estranged girlfriend, Stephanie Brown, along with a couple inside a home at 24th and Lister Friday night around 10:19.

Hubbard allegedly got into an argument with Brown and Anthony Richardson inside the home. Hubbard is accused of trying to force Brown to leave with him before getting into a fight with Richardson. Court documents say Hubbard hit Brown in the head with his gun and asked her, "Why are you disrespecting me?"

A witness, the son of Richardson, told police that Hubbard told his father, "You in my business." Anthony Richardson got into a scuffle with Hubbard, and he was thrown into a television. Richardson said he was going to bed but picked up a jewelry box and struck Hubbard in the head.

The witness told police that he saw Hubbard shoot Richardson, his father, twice in the chest. Hubbard then shot Brown twice in the head at close range before shooting Anthony Richardson's wife, Mary, in the mouth. Hubbard left the scene in his girlfriend's red Kia.

Hubbard, 46, turned himself into police on Sunday. Hubbard wouldn't sign a Miranda form but told police that he was there "to turn myself in." Asked for what, Hubbard replied, "for whatever."

Hubbard is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, three counts of armed criminal action and a count of first-degree robbery.

Anthony Richardson was reportedly a friend of Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forte's.
