Bronson Joyce accused in double homicide.
  • Bronson Joyce gave police a bunch of reasons for killing two men.
Broson Joyce told detectives that he committed a double homicide for two reasons: (1) One of the victims was infected with AIDS and was spreading the disease to multiple partners, and (2) the other victim was a crack cocaine user.

Joyce, 19, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in last weekend's double homicide of 42-year-old Alphonso Nicholson and 52-year-old Claude Carson. Nicholson and Carson were found shot to death inside an apartment in the 2500 block of Benton around 6:33 a.m. Saturday.

A witness told police that Joyce sold crack cocaine to Alphonso Nicholson and a third, unidentified female victim. Court records say Joyce shot the female victim in the left arm and shot Nicholson six times in the chest. Joyce then went inside the apartment and shot Carson three times.

In an interview with detectives, Joyce admitted planning to kill Nicholson for more than a month. Joyce explained that Nicholson had AIDS and was having unprotected sex with multiple partners. As for Carson, Joyce said he killed him because he was a witness and couldn't be trusted. Joyce added that Carson was a crack cocaine user, and he "had to put him out of his misery."

Joyce is also charged with three counts of armed criminal action and one count of first-degree assault. Prosecutors are requesting a $750,000 cash-only bond.
