The Kansas Jayhawks fired football coach Turner Gill on Sunday, a day after KU fell to the Missouri Tigers in the final gridiron installment of the Border War.

Gill was only in year two as coach of the Jayhawks, winning just two games this season and losing every conference game.

"After a thorough evaluation of our football program, I have concluded that new leadership is necessary to place us on the path toward competing for championships in the Big 12 Conference," KU Athletic Director Sheahon Zenger said in a statement. "I come to this conclusion reluctantly, because I have the utmost respect for Turner Gill as a quality individual who wants only the best for the young men he coaches."

Gill's $2,101,200 salary was the fifth-highest in the Big 12. KU fans can thank ex-AD Lew Perkins for that. KU will pay the remaining three years of Gill's contract.

Gill's overall record was 5-19 with just one conference win in two years, coming over Colorado. Gill had to go. Two years may not seem long enough, and there are plenty of examples of coaches pulling it together after rough starts. But KU under Gill didn't look like a program that could pull it together.

ESPN.com name-drops ex-Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, former South Florida coach Jim Leavitt, Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora and Houston coach Kevin Sumlin.

The Star notes that Zenger has links to Leach and Leavitt. Leach would be a bombshell hiring.

Look, this is another example of payment for failure. If the world would just REFUSE TO PAY ANYTHING for sucking at your job, the economy would be the way it should. Liberals would die off because they sponge off the government, and conservatives would die off because they set up these payment for failure in the first place. This shit isn't racist. This shit is why your athletic department fee you pay with your tuition is being wasted. This is why America is going to shit.

Big Lew's parting shot. So freaking funny.

KU now has paid Mangio, Perkins, and Gill close to 10 million in divorce money. For an athletic department that is already $58 million in debt it is just funny. Good luck pulling in anyone with that budget, those facilites, and the "tradition" of KU football.

KU basketball will never bring in enough revenue to make KU relevant in football. Cart appears to be before the horse Kansas Fans....

SEC!!! Go tigers!!

I feel bad for Turner Gill. He never stood a chance with all the racist ku fans wanting him to fail from day 1.
