There won't be any pirate sightings in Lawrence. Ex-Texas Tech coach Mike Leach agreed Wednesday to coach the Washington State Cougars.

Leach's name had been dropped for the vacant Kansas Jayhawks job, which opened up after the firing of Turner Gill. Leach is getting a five-year deal, so cross his name off the list of KU candidates.

The Star reported that KU Athletic Director Sheahon Zenger is hitting the road to conduct the coaching search, and he says he has between six and 10 candidates.

Names out there include Southern Mississippi coach Larry Fedora, Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops and Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes. Other names possibly on KU's wish list include former South Florida coach Jim Leavitt and Houston coach Kevin Sumlin.
