The New York Post reports that Royals right fielder Jeff Francoeur and manager Ned Yost took Broxton on a bow hunting trip at the Foxworthy Farm, a 40,000-acre estate in Georgia owned by the ginger purveyor of redneck jokes. While on the trip, they convinced the pitcher to sign with the club.
Broxton, a Georgia native, was convinced that Kansas City was the place for him, and Francoeur told the Post, I’m not much of a hunter, but that hunting trip really worked out well," and added, "I think we’re going to have a pretty good little team now in Kansas City."
Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves. But clearly Francoeur knew his mark. The Post reports that Broxton decided to join the Royals despite Mets superstar David Wright trying to recruit him with just a lame old phone call.
