If I were a KU fan, I'm not sure I'd be excited about this hire. Weis spent this year as the offensive coordinator for the Florida Gators. Weis apparently didn't feel it was necessary to tell head coach Will Muschamp that he was even interviewing for the job. However, Muschamp has since said Weis told him that he was interviewing. Who to believe?
Weis' offense didn't burn up the nation; the 6-6 Gators were ranked 102nd in offense in the nation.
Weis spent the year before as offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs. Rumors persisted that he couldn't get along with head coach Todd Haley.
From 2005 to 2009, he coached Notre Dame to a 35-27 record before getting run out of South Bend. His first two seasons there ended with losses in the Fiesta and Sugar bowls, respectively. His last three years went from bad (3-9) to mediocre (7-6 and 6-6).
Weis also has three Super Bowl rings from his time running the New England Patriots' offense.
Upgrade from Turner Gill? Yes. Home-run hire? Not even close. Weis' resume is one of a mercenary. It's even more bizarre given his comments to the Associated Press on November 23. Remember, Weis claimed that he left the Chiefs for family reasons (his son is enrolled at Florida, and his daughter has special needs).
"Remember, I have a kid who is a freshman in college here," Weis told the AP. "Remember the reasons why I came here. So I'll be here for a while unless you're trying to get rid of me."
Maybe 16 days is Weis' definition of "a while."

well they had all that heavy duty furniture and the floors had all been reinforced for Mangino....may as well get their investment back....and of course the Coach's shorts and T shirts won't have to be sold to the traveling revival for tents either.
I can't understand a College coach being paid 12 million over 5 years. Its a game. No wonder it cost so much to send a student to college, were paying crazy salarys to someone who coaches jocks. What a waste of dollars when unemployment is at record highs and people are losing their homes. SHAME ON KU. This is why America is slipping behind in education.
Why not try it? No proven coach wants the job, might as well get some hype with Charlie. Worst case - KU is looking again in a few years which is status quo.
Might work out in the short run and be a good step in the right direction.
KU is rather intent on having a morbidly obese football coach die on their watch.
While not for attribution, I have it from several sources in the University’s administration this is directly linked to Bill Self’s ego.
ha ha ha.....the jokes on the jbirds......must have been closing time and he was the only person left at the buffet......
