Kansas City police have released a sketch of a man suspected of sexually assaulting a 71-year-old woman in her home on December 15.

Police say a man confronted the woman in her home in the 3200 block of East 10th Street around 7:30 p.m. last Thursday. The man repeatedly assaulted the woman over the course of several hours.

The woman and a forensic sketch artist and detectives worked together to produce two sketches of the suspect: one of his face and one of unique scarring on his left arm.

The suspect is described as a “wiry,” bald black male, about 35 to 40 years old. He stands about 6 feet tall and weighs about 175 pounds. He wore a black silk cloth around his head and black clothing. Police described him as having a "medium complexion" with brown eyes, a goatee and mustache. The man is said to be soft-spoken with a lower voice. He has two scars, possibly burns, on his left forearm.

If you have info, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

I'm confused. Perhaps a more intelligent/educated reader can enlighten me. The victim describes her assailant as " a bald BLACK male " but the sketch provided {presumably to help in the capture of this evil, dangerous person} shows us someone that could hardly be described as black. Is such a sketch really supposed to be helpful?!
