Of all the headaches that airports have had to deal with during this holiday travel season, people packing heat might be the biggest. Anthony Winn allegedly was that headache at KCI Thursday when, authorities say, he tried to bring a loaded 9 mm Glock onto a connecting flight to Minneapolis. His final destination was Tucson.

Winn was detained by federal agents after he allegedly put his carry-on bag onto the X-ray belt, and security guards noticed the firearm. According to charges filed by federal prosecutors, Winn told authorities that he had picked the bag up from his mother's house in Independence and was going to take it to a friend in Arizona. He told agents, "If I had known there was a gun in my bag, I would not have tried to bring it on the plane." Federal prosecutors didn't buy his claim, and he has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and knowingly carrying a weapon onto a flight.

Authorities also said Winn was found to have $4,906 in his pockets, and his checked bag contained three pairs of jeans with a total of $26,515 stuffed into the pockets. Each of the charges he faces carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

You can read the full complaint, along with a thorough inventory of his luggage, here. He packed only five socks.
