Independence police are looking for two "persons of interest" pictured in the photos attached to this story. So if you've seen these guys or know where to find them, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477 or the Independence Police Department Investigations Unit at 816-325-7330.
The shooting occurred around 4:30 p.m. after a fight escalated. The scene was chaos with people running everywhere. The mall was locked down (the mall has since reopened). Channel 5 reported that the victims are boyfriend and girlfriend. One of them was shot in the leg, while the other was shot in the foot.
This is a sad reminder of the April 2007 shooting rampage at the Ward Parkway mall that killed two people (a police officer shot and killed the shooter).
Luckily, this time, no one was killed.

Balbonis Moleskin - you obviously haven't read any of the posts in the Killer City Blog in the Pitch. There are some folks on that blog posting that the high murder rate in KC Mo is due to the marijuana laws and the racist implementation of it which disproportionately affects blacks......after I got done laughing at the preposterous implied correlation I thought I'd share the hairbrained idea in a sarcastic comment on the perps shooting up Independece Center......check it out.

while I appreciate your desire to smoke legal or decriminalized weed, there are hardly any marijuana offenders locked up from Jackson county.
They have COMBAT/drug court in Jackson county so if you end up in jail on any drug offense you are a damn idiot who either can't stop doing drugs or cant show for a monthly meeting with the PO.
If you were to give any credit to some of the idiotic posts by some folks regarding the high murder rate in KC, MO....you'd have to surmise that these perps are likely without parents due to their unjust incarceration and the harsh marijuana laws and therefore their children have to resort to murder to settle any kind of social or domestic disagreement. Personally, I thought the posters' must have a serious pot problem that is distorting their sense of reality......but that's just me.
