KCTV5's Dana Wright replaces Mike Shanin on KMBZ's afternoon drive-time talk show

Posted by Justin Kendall on Thu, Jan 19, 2012 at 10:29 AM

Dana Wright moves to the radio.
  • Dana Wright moves to the radio.

The Shanin and Parks show on KMBZ 980 is going to need a new name. Shanin, as in Mike Shanin, is out. In is KCTV Channel 5 investigative reporter Dana Wright. This news comes from Bottom Line Communications' John Landsberg, who should change the name of his website to Scoops, Scoops, Scoops.

Wright will still do occasional projects and investigations for Channel 5, but she'll mainly be co-hosting with Scott Parks weekdays from 2 to 6 p.m. She starts January 30.

Meanwhile, Shanin's ghost is apparently sticking around Entercom.

Guess our Shanin and Parks T-shirts are now collectors' items. Look out, eBay!

Dana is an idiot. She refuses to properly listen and then tell what was actually said. Herbert west 3rd http://herbertwest3rd.blogspot.com/

I don't like Dana Wright. I was disappointed when I heard she was taking over that show (which is what she has done---taken over) She is one reason I stopped watching the news on KCTV a long time ago. She is a know it all and I noticed can be very opinionated but doesn't like it when others give their opinion. She started off wrong, in my opinion, when she carried on about her terrible pregnancies. Don't have 4 if you can't stand being pregnant.

to kcbill -

Black people can call each other all manner of things, okay, or vote for a black man because he is black, okay, you got the white guilt in there and maybe his ancestor sold slaves too...

Cheer up! You sound angry but there is nothing wrong with any of that.

@ Jeffrey Heavin

What got Pat Buchanan fired is this article, which is a revisionist defense of Hitler & the Nazis: http://buchanan.org/blog/did-hitler-want-war-2068

No excerpts. Go read it, and count the lies.

The man was fired because he thinks Hitler got a bad rap. Lie down with dogs....

I haven't bothered to listen since Mike left. I am not a Scott fan. It is funny that you folks have the good ole race thread going. One of today's hot items is Samuel Jackson saying the only reason he voted for Obama was because he was Black and then he goes on to use Nigga about five times. Truth is Obama was elected for race reasons. He is Black, 97% of Blacks voted for him, many many ignorant whites voted for him from a guilt factor. He was the most unvetted person to ever run for office in this country. I believe it was because he was Black. Hopefully the big mistake makes up for the slave guilt which no living person had anything to do with. On top of that, Obama did not come from slave blood. for all we know his ancestors sold slaves out of Kenya.

I've listened to the new show a few times and confirmed what I thought...she brings nothing to the table...sorry Scott, you need a new partner, someone with Mike's wit, knowledge and humor or your show won't stay afloat! Sorry about that.

I'm not familiar with why Shanin is no longer there, but I do remember the audio of the women and the 'Obama Money". I found it very insulting as a black woman and playing it once was enough. Playing it over and over had me thinking there was another more covert reason why he continued it. I did not care for it at all and because people are so quick to sterotype, it was that much more insulting.

Point moon.

But it was a black woman, Shanin and me and anyone who listened to it knew.

Jeffrey

I foolishly voted for Pat Buchanan's boss, Richard Nixon, and watched in disgust as Helen Thomas fawned over Jimmy Carter.

I watched them both fade out. Not get arrested or fired by your fictional Orwellian thought police force.

Live it, and you don't have to read what someone else says about it.

Since the recording was on the radio, how do you know it was of a black women? I honestly don't know, was it also on TV, did Shanin specify it was a black woman?

'Cause, seems to me, that if all you were going by was a voice, well that would be pretty racist right there.

Well Jeffrey

I sure think Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle, etc., are funny as hell and they use stereotypes of blacks all the time. Why would I ever feel guilty laughing at them?

But as I listened one day to Shanin play that Obama money recording about five times in 20 minutes and laugh hysterically at the uh, stereotype of blacks he was promoting, using public airways, I was not amused. Obviously neither were his employers amused. Racism is not funny to most people, even if it is unintended.

Helen Thomas and Pat Buchanan lost their jobs because their performance had become sub-par in the view of their employers, not because of some imaginary "big brother" with a force of "thought police" enforcing some ideology.

C'mon man.

Goofy move and not a very good one to keep Scott Parks around. Should be Dana and Shanin or just Dana. Looks like I'll be back to listening to other stuff.

Refractional--So if a Black radio personality had played the recording over and over we could have accepted it and laughed without guilt. LOL Pat Buchanan lost his job at MSNBC because Leltists didn't like parts of his new book.Helen Thomas was the darling of White House correspondents for many years and had journalism scholarships in her name at prominent universities across the country. When she publicly suggested that Israel leave Palestine she was black-balled. Paranoia ? Really?

Wink

Of course blacks can behave in a racist manner. How about those Black Panthers? If blacks stereotype or discriminate against whites, that is racism. But they can call each other nigga all day and it is not racism.

Jeffrey

The truth is not racist in and of itself. But when a white man running a serious talk show (Shannin), using public air waves (usage permitted by our government) uses a recording of a black woman expecting "Obama money", repeatedly the way he did over a several month period... racism bud, pure and simple.

Helen Thomas and Pat Buchanan have not exhibited any racism, or been discriminated against in any way that I am aware of, or been dismissed from any job because of their racial views. They both just got old and senile that is why they are retired. That is what Shannin should do too.

Unless you live in N. Korea (or some religion-based community, like Utah, or country, like Iran), "thought police" is a figment of your paranoia. In America, we don't put people in jail for thinking.

A racist recording of a black lady.

So you admit blacks are racist too?

@Refractional Telling the truth about Blacks isn't Racist, it's telling the truth. Mike Shanin now has much in common with Helen Thomas and Pat Buchanan. They told the truth and were nailed by the thought police. "In a time of universal deceit-telling the truth is a revolutionary act"--George Orwell

Shanin finally got what he deserved.

He played that racist recording over and over of the black lady talking about getting some Obama money, joking and laughing and never understanding... racism sticks to you if you use it - even in little doses.

And it does not rub off easily.

I never heard of Dana Wright - she must be another darling of rightie a.m. radio, of which I never bother. I know of Mike Shanin as the host of Ruckus on KCPT.

I cannot stand her. She is a know-it-all and very snotty. The other one issues wise concepts like "The truth is real, that's why it's the truth," or something of that nature. Whatever, it's a dumb tautology and he needs to take a class.

In one of the commercials for her and the other reporter named Stacy Cameron, they're standing next to each other and she looks like a male weight lifter or a bulldog...looks very masculine...odd.

Not sure about this one at all...she comes from the highly questionable KCTV5 local news team, famous for sensationalizing and spinning everything...even the ads touting her and the "lawyer/journalist" are kind of a joke..."if I thyink we can do some good, we do it!" Shanin is a wealth of knowledge, partly because of his age...it'll be interesting!
