A missing black Labradoodle was briefly trending on Twitter yesterday. Charlie, who happens to be owned by George Brett, was found after a series of appeals by the former Royal to his 11,883 followers.
Brett has been on Twitter (or Tweeter as he called it May 28) for only 26 days. But when his pup disappeared, the Mission Hills neighborhood search for the pooch suddenly had eyes on it all over the country. However, yesterday's travails and the digital version of a poster-on-streetlights-campaign actually shed a lot more light on us than on him.

The current Danzig tour sees frontman Glenn Danzig reunited with Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, his former Misfits bandmate. That means a full set of terrifying Misfits tunes tonight at the Uptown, plus heavy devil rock from the Danzig and Samhain catalogs. Hammerlord opens. Doors at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
City Councilman Jermaine Reed revealed that he was once homeless.
A discussion of homelessness got very personal for one member of Kansas City's City Council on Wednesday. Mike Mahoney's 20 Pounds of Headlines reported that Councilman Jermaine Reed revealed that he and his family were homeless during a two-year period in 1997 and 1998.
Reed, the councilman for the 3rd District, explained that he (then a teenager), along with his five brothers and mother, stayed at the Community LINC homeless shelter at 4012 Troost "until we got back on our feet."
Reed's admission was during a meeting of the City Council's Neighborhoods and Healthy Communities Committee, where the Homeless Services Coalition of Greater Kansas City made a presentation regarding homelessness in the city.
The biscuits are serious business at the Big Biscuit.
The biscuits have been bigger in Prairie Village for two weeks now. The Big Biscuit Co. opened its fourth location in the metro area on May 17 at 5400 W. 95th St., the former Le Peep space.
The Big Biscuit serves breakfast and lunch with portions that often overflow the plates, such as the 1/2-pound ham steak that is a de facto eating challenge. There are 10 kinds of pancakes if you include the pigs in blankets (sausages wrapped in buttermilk pancakes) and a heap of omelets, waffles, scrambles and French toast. Lunch is burgers, sandwiches, salads and soups in the style of a country diner - it's not eating, unless there is something fried on the plate.

That show will feature Gotye (so hot right now), Chairlift and Zammuto (the new band from one of the guys in the Books). The place that gave diners a place to yelp, before there was a Yelp, is now free. Zagat, the erstwhile print dining guide turned multimedia dinner-recommendation service, is free if you're willing to register for Google+ (also free).
Zagat was acquired by Google in September 2011 - a countermove to the rising popularity of Yelp (which the iPhone's Siri application currently mines for its restaurant recommendations).

New local band Liquor Buddies, featuring Steve Wilson (Mahoots), Matt Erickson (Litigators, Bleach Bloodz), Scott Gribble (Sunday Drive) and Doug Hitchcock (Near Death Experience) have played only one show thus far, and that was two months ago. Nevertheless, the quartet has a song for your ears, and it's a wonderful bit of power pop. If this is what these gents have to offer, I'd like more. And soon. Please. PETA is asking the Kansas Department of Transportation to put up the memorial sign at the crash scene. The animal-rights organization says the sign reminds truck "drivers of their responsibility to the thousands of animals they haul to their deaths every day."
"It's tragic enough that cows will end up in slaughterhouses, where their throats will be slit and some of them will be skinned alive," PETA Vice President Dan Mathews said in a statement. "PETA's sign will remind truck drivers that the least that we can do for these animals is to take care to save them from plunging off of an overpass to a bloody, drawn-out death on the pavement below."

Eric Earley is now into his 12th year leading Blitzen Trapper. The band spent the first half of its life mired in Portland's local indie-music ghetto. Struggling with his father's death and his own indifference, Earley wound up homeless for a while before pouring his energy into late-night recordings in the band's practice space. Those sessions produced Blitzen Trapper's critically acclaimed third album, 2007's Wild Mountain Nation and its Sub Pop debut, Furr, which were recorded concurrently. They were followed with 2010's Destroyer of the Void and last year's American Goldwing, which blends a '70s classic-rock mien with Earley's rootsy swagger, and lyrics that express longing for another time or place, or just somewhere to call home. The Pitch recently caught up with Earley in Portland, where he was preparing to leave on tour. (The Kansas City stop is Thursday, May 31, at the Riot Room.)
