Arnold Shelby, Joe Loehr and Maurice Carter identified as weekend homicide victims

Kansas City's homicide total now sits at 73 for the year.

The Kansas City Police Department has released the victims' names in three weekend homicides.

Arnold Shelby, 35, was found shot to death in a yard in the 3700 block of East 29th Street around 4:30 a.m. Saturday. Witnesses told police that a black man had shot the victim and then fled on foot. Detectives are still following up on leads.

Th body of 52-year-old Joe Loehr was found in a homeless camp in the woods near Front Street and North Kansas around 9:45 p.m. Saturday. Detectives questioned a person of interest who lives at the camp. Although the person was released, police say the subject remains a person of interest, and Loehr's death is being investigated as a homicide.

Maurice Carter, 19, was fatally shot inside a vehicle at 49th and Garfield around 5:10 p.m. Sunday. Detectives are looking for suspects in the case.
